No Karmat was neither called out or put down, I am just saying she is telling us what she knows and to put down DPChallenge isnt going to help get us DPL any faster. I am just asking people to remember that site council are not the major imfluences of the webiste and they carry out what is handed down to them from above.

Ok. I see where you're coming from. :)

Agreed - whining won't help much to speed up DPL2; it did get a nice bone tossed out there by routerguy666.

Why not visit my online photography portfolio?

Please don't post your signature inline - I've seen this in a few threads. Some of us turn them off because we don't want to see them, and nobody wants to quote them.

=) Besides - I'm jealous of your 40D enough as it is.

As OP on this thread. I first want to say lets keep everything civil. There is no need to beat up on any of the SC. Remember these people do what they do for us on a daily basis and volunteer their time to keep DPC running as a website and this is a thankless job most of the time.

The SC people may be volunteers but DPC charges member fees. Please stop whining about the criticism and help us get some answers. Why do people think it is ok to cause delay for months? As Karmat told us there is not even a discussion about when it should run again. As I see it the DPL is dead.

What do you think that your membership fee entitles you to be rude to people, do you think that just because you push and push your going to get your way. Look back into the answers to your entries the answer has remained the same. No plans for DPL Season 2.

Do you think because you pay 25 a year that you can attempt to force the website creators into doing things they dont want to do to get what you want.Do you think 7 cents a day (which is what the membership fee breaks down to BTW) doesnt already pay for itself on this website? The web storage on site is worth that much. Not to mention the information and the interaction of the challenges.

And before accusing some one of whining, you need to do a bit more reasearch as well. I was the origonal poster of this thread and have been looking for answers to this question since August both in the forums and through PMs. Which is alot longer than you have been doing in the past 4 or 5 days.

As a DPL captain I would like to see the next season as soon as possible also but being rude and agressive in the forums will not help any.

My primary problem was Hauxon claiming there should be shame and embarassment associated with the delay. Other than that, I think there's been plenty of productive suggestions.

I also think Hauxon's out of line in asserting that the delay is deliberate and that they want the DPL to disappear.

Maybe you don't see a difference between his posts and those from many others, but I do.

Just to be crystal clear -- there will be a dpl season 2. We just don't know when right now.

The date has not been discussed. Other things relevant and relative to a new season has, and is.

To me it looks like the idea is to put DPL to sleep. Months have passed and they haven't even discussed approximate start date. Maybe the plan is to say "we're working on it" until everyone forgets about it. The reason for me being harsh is just to pull some answers out of people. I don't like being lied to. If the idea is to end the WPL/DPL thing the most honest thing is to tell the truth.

You are the one to have speculated that dpl is dead. Why is it us that is being dishonest? I've told you what I know, scalvert and others have told you what they know. How is that dishonest?
11/13/2007 10:37:00 AM · #108
If there was an answer for that, please give me the link, but... why are we waiting for if I may ask? New coding needs to be done? new rules?...

Just wondering.

So what would be the hold up from starting the Season 2? I mean can't we all just say lets go or is there something coming up that we don't know about yet?

I mean if we already have the system settings from the first DPL wouldn't season 2 just be from an OK from the admin?

Best, Hrannar

Mainly, we are considering some revisions to the rules, the need for which became apparent during the running of DPL1.

It would be kind of stupid to run a season-based competition and change the rules part-way through. These are not simple "problems" to solve, but until they are solved, it seems pointless to start up a new season.

I apologize I must have missed that post.

I now understand, Thanks

People! Why all this sensitivity? I'm just saying that I see no logic to a delay this long if the plan is to keep the DPL alive. It has already been stated several times in this thread that there is no plan or even discussion of a start date. As for the DPL being dead is just how the situation looks to me. Not a statement just an impression.

And speaking of honesty. I'm not accusing anyone, just saying if it has been decided to slay DPL it should be announced. Telling us would be the honest then. And if not, then stop giving us all those fuzzy answers and tell us the plan or schedule for next season!

Best, Hrannar the troublemaker

Hrannar,

An announcement just for you: There will be a dpl sometime in the future, but we don't know when. We have not discussed the starting date. We have discussed the future of dpl. There is one. There WILL be a dpl2.

The delay has been explained. The start date has not been decided. There will be a dpl. We are trying to complete a couple of other things first so that we don't have to make major adjustments in the middle of a season, AND we are trying to address the issues that arose from the transition from wpl to dpl. We want to keep dpc a fair and fun place for everyone (or as many as is humanly possible).

Please, please, please, hear me. We are not "slaying" dpl. Therefore, we cannot announce that we are. To say that we were would be dishonest. I'm shaving as much fuzz off this answer as I can. There will be a "next" season, we just don't don't the exact date, so we can't tell you the when.

The plan is:

a. Finalize the rules review.
b. Iron out the wrinkles from dpl1.
c. Make an announcement and let the sign ups begin.

I, formally, am withdrawing from this endless "discussion." If you want to continue believing that we are propagating some great hoax, and we are sitting in some glass room having fun at your anticipation and expense, then I honestly don't think there is any thing else I can say to convince you otherwise. There will be a dpl. You know everything I know now. When we (the SC) know more, we will let you know.

Until we make an announcement, you can safely assume that we are discussing/addressing/arguing about the things that have been mentioned.

Thanks Karmat.

Conclusion: DPL is not dead, it's only in a coma.

Cheers, Hrannar

Just wondering if the DPL is still paralized in deep coma or if there has been any progress. January? Frebruary? 2009? Next millenium?

Best, Hrannar ;)

Hi Guys, I don't think that the SC doesn't want DPL2, I mean look at the challenges submitions numbers & voting rates while DPL1, I think they wouldn't say no for the gains of DPL to the DPC, So It's only a matter of time though its been a while since we were promised that there will be 3 or 4 DPL seosons per a year, So if we start in a month for example, that would make it 2 DPL per a year.
But I guise that after DPL2 the rules would be effeciant & the seasons speeding up more.
Please Please SC, Start DPL2 soon, We all really really miss it so much :)

The DPL. Everyone wants it. But it seems there are
problems getting it underway.

Perhaps a special committee of knowledgeable members
could be gathered together to take the burden off the
site council to shake out these existing problems.

In other words, wouldn't it be helpful to
use the total resources of our community
to get DPL back in business.

Long time with no further information, surely SC "know more". Communication is a very powerful thing !!! and the lack of communication is a very dangerous thing.

We are currently in the process of scrutinizing the results of the survey and figuring out exactly the best approach.

We are closer now than a month ago. :)

I know that answer isn't what you want, and I can assure you that there are several SC members chomping at the bit as well. (Me being one)

Hmmmmmmmmmm. The extra member challenge this week got me thinking. Perhaps Langdon and Drew are going to institute a DPL-only challenge each week during the season to take the load off the other challenges, and this Brown Ribbon challenge is the test run. Not a bad idea -- a separate weekly challenge just for the DPL, starting and ending on Thursdays? Sign me up!

Nah. Probably just wishful thinking on my part.

02/19/2008 02:20:18 PM · #124
Actually, that (separate dpl challenges) has been one of the things we have tossed about in our discussions.

The brown didn't have anything to do with it, that I know of. (Could be wrong)
