In response to Banmorn who commented on this picture:

Fascinating. Love the patterning and textures. Hey one on these made this week's MSNBC This Week In Pictures. Neat plant. Would love to do one ....where are they?

I went to MSNBC this morning to see the picture he was talking about (#8 in the slideshow). The photo is so similar to mine that that I could hardly believe it. Freaky!

As far as where you can find western salsify (also known as goatsbeard) growing...pretty much over much of temperate North America. It is considered a weed of roadsides, pastures, fields, and waste sites.

Kind of a weedy looking flower but it's interesting. I'm more pleased with the background effect on this one.

Per my comments, here's a sharper version, with selective color in the white range adjusted as well to richen the flower:

Incredible flower. Color seems off in the green/cyan range. Does this variant look closer to correct?

Here is my take. I feel the picture overall is to light. So in levels I brought the light down effecting the whole image. Then in light and contrast I upped the contrast ever so slightly. Trying to not blow the highlights. The major enhancement I think was the use of the blur tool, I blurred the whole background. I feel there wasn't enough difference between the subject and it. Lastly I subtly applied sharping with the sharping tool. Used Photoshop Elements 3.

Day 8

I haven't been commenting much but I will soon catch up on that. I also plan to go back and re-edit/redo according to comments made on my shots. as well as post the original photo in the comments portion of each. This is such a great learning tool. Right now I'm doing good to just keep up with getting the 30 days posted.

I've been a terrible slacker on the comments this weekend, we had an unexpected visit from my granddaughter. Will catch up tomorrow when I'm at work (and have more time ;) Here's my shot for today, at least I got that in!

Here it is with soft focus applied. Helps the pixely background a bit. Thanks for letting me practice.

I have a question. Hope nobody minds. Is DPI a function of the mp on my camera? I take the images in the highest resolution available but the images still only come out 72 DPI. Is there any way to increase the DPI on images? I'd like to put a couple of photos on DPC prints but my photos don't meet the minimum requirement for DPI.
Thanks
Eve
