looks to me that eventually everyone in a challenge will get a blue ribbon of sorts
come on ppl. this is getting a bit much
what about a ribbon for the worst creative idea?

a closed box?

Why not? Also a shoehorn award AND a DNMC award. This site is meant to encourage photographic development(!), and all of these awards highlight some aspect or another therein, and do, I believe, help us to look again and find something. Photography IS, essentially, looking again and finding something.

So, just for future reference, are you saying you wouldn't want any more of the newer ones, if they were to be offered.......? Or you just don't want anyone else to create any newer awards, since they might diminish the value of the two long-coveted posthumous awards, and two of the newer (and also coveted) x-prizes on your profile? :-)

Seriously, though, I wouldn't take it so seriously--it is just a creative way for some members to semi-formally but very unofficially recognize some images that may or may not have been 'overlooked' in the overall voting. There are so many styles, tastes, and genres of photography, and this is a way of expressing and celebrating that fact. They are not just "participant" ribbons given to everyone.

Personally, I am highly in favor of these awards. I have a potential concern about them all being posted in this one thread -- there are both advantages and disadvantages to that format. However, if the thread becomes so large that it significantly slows down the loading time, it may have to branch off somehow.

Perhaps the solution is to have a new thread for each challenge's posthumous awards or a weekly thread.

The disadvantages of this (and advantage of the present format) are loss of continuity and the risk of "front page clutter" if there are too many threads of this type. Right now, I'd say it's not a problem.

So far the majority of people are flattered to receive my humble awards and encourage me (via PM's) to continue.
I've tossed about the idea for a poop award but then I figured it would probably just piss people off instead of inspire them to try harder.

Some wise-ass would just observe that the number of these awards is increasing excrementally ... ;-)

There are a few people that I really respect that should give out awards. I would be thrilled and honored to receive an award from either Melethia or MAK or Mephisto.

Perhaps you just have a fetish for names beginning with "M" ... ;-)

LOL!

And on the "too many awards" - nah. Just for fun. I do post to this thread when I find pictures I think deserve additional recognition, but don't have any nifty gifs to offer.

At the risk of overpopulating the thread, I'm not offering any awards, just kudos. Here are some of my favorites that finished further down than I voted them. Just for your viewing pleasure, and hopefully another perhaps longer look:

(OK, this one did very well, but I still think it's worth another look for those of you who may have missed it.)

Thank you so much Melethia. I found it also cool that you grouped me with shots that I had scored highly as well. It's an honor.
