Looks like there *are* the normal ribbons, though.

Wow. I can't really believe how this joke has got some people quite so bent out of shape.

Really guys and girls, like Kelly said, have some perspective. Even if you had a shot that didn't make it into "vanish" then

It's only a photo.
You could, if you really wanted to, enter it in the free study.
You could, if you really wanted to, stick it in your portfolio.

It was April fools day, the challenge was called "vanish". I think some of you are complaining more because you got suckered in than anything else. Kick yourself for it if you like, but there's no need for anger.

I think I've been pretty much disappointed in the overall reaction to the April Fool's jokes that were on here. A small but fairly loud set of people seem to be a little lacking in humour, I think.

I don’t know if anyone else has thought about the “Vanished” challenge in quite this way before. Can it be it simply morphed into “Changed” with differing items? Same contest With the April 1st twist. I feel for those who went to great effort gathering items and spending time on something that never had a prayer so, Kick off your shoes and socks pour yourselves a nice glass of wine, lay back and put a cold compress to your head and try not to feel like to big of a sucker!

Well I was almost right. Any particular reason why the votes aren't being shown?

8.3 ... GO GO MrPants ... I personally think that such a great picture like that deserves a blue in ANY contest. Yeh it was good fun yesterday, some got upset others didn't .. it's all over now give the winners their ribbons they made the effort to do the shot..

I hate to keep bringing this up but a lot of OTHER people made the effort and took a shot as well but didn't get a chance to enter because the 24 hour challenge wasn't left there for 24 hours to submit to!!!!!!

Oh, but just ignore me, I take things too seriously, I am a complainer and a whiner, I don't matter.

I think Langdon and all the SC need to be banned for a couple of weeks.

Actually this whole thread should be ignored before I start name calling.

Actually, several of us were expecting that on Sunday ... your proposal has already received consideration as well ... : )

I'm willing to take the roll of dictator in your absence. Anybody who gives me lip will be banned for life, as will any of their relatives. I think locking threads at random would be fun too. ;-)

My last 2 cents on this issue...

I'm all for a good prank and have no shortage of a sense of humor, but I think the amount of site sponsored pranks running all at once was excessive and what happened in the Vanished challenge was unprecedented (far as I know). A prank that evokes an emotional reaction for a short time (i.e. scores, WPL rules, etc.) seems fine, but a prank that causes people to spend a considerable amount of time and/or money for nothing is not, IMO.

Regarding all the "it's just a joke" type comments, if you were not affected by it, did not spend considerable time on it, and/or did not have a viable entry anyway, I respectfully ask you to consider your next effort for a challenge (or your last effort) and imagine that when you go to submit it, you find out the submissions ended early and you missed out and wasted your time. Would you find it amusing? If so, fine, but respect that others were annoyed by it, including those who appreciate a good prank. This just seems like a bad prank at the expense of some people's time and some damage to the site's credibility, IMO.

I don't want to argue about it or waste any more time on the issue - I just felt like responding to those who felt nobody has the right to be a bit annoyed by the whole event, or that those that are have no sense of humor.

done.

I'm about to put this thread on ignore, but I agree with what you've said here. It was a bad prank and it went horribly wrong. I think it's one that will never be repeated, though.

Anyway, just remember if ya keep pickin' at a booboo it never heals.

Out.

Personally I think that anyone who put so much time and effort into taking that one shot that they feel hard done by when the - plainly obvious - April Fools' challenge disappeared should probably take some time to evaluate whether there were better things that they could have been doing. If not, well, then there's no problem is there? If so, then they should have done those things instead.

I'm not going to sit here and argue about it any more, but to me it seems that to put what was obviously a joke challenge above what are more important things in life and then moan about it afterwards is an odd thing to do.

I totally agree with MIst. Come on, people! It was called "vanish" and it was april fool's day! what did you think it was going to do?

get over it! if you really spent so much time and effort on the shot, then you must have an absolutely amazing image on your hands! why don't you post some of your fantastic outtakes and show us all what we missed? otherwise, it happened, it's done, move on with your life and stop obsessing over your missed opportunity to win a virtual ribbon.

Yes, but the previous April Fools' day challenges have been 'serious' (I use inverted commas here, I'm sure you know what I mean), in that they have run the expected course. Plenty of people prepared entries in the spirit of participation in the goings-on of this site and in the spirit of community. IMO, to dismiss their efforts as effectively being of no consequence is, to my mind, a little short-sighted.

... "plainly obvious - April Fools' challenge" ...

This one ran on April Fool's Day in 2005, and went to full completion with 110 entries. Very similar in nature being a 24 hour speed challenge with special rules/restrictions.
Rubber Ducky

... "better things that they could have been doing. If not, well, then there's no problem is there?" ...

Time wasted is time wasted, regardless of whether you had other things to do or not.

It's been clear to me for a long time that Langdon and the SC as a collective have no sense of humour, based on their reactions to many of my harmless jokes.

It just makes sense, due to the above fact, that they are unable to pull off a proper prank. We should all take pity on them, rather than get angry. They tried, and that's the main thing.

Been away for a couple of days. You still here, Slip? Thought you quit or are you working out your months notice?
