Well I just finished voting on them and I'm pretty impressed with some of the results.

I voted and commented on all of the photos. I hope these 12 get a ton of comments.

I agree it's a valid feeling but it's a self centered one, IMO. The site doesn't just cater to those that hang around the site all day in the forums but to everyone and not everyone has experienced the "joke". If it bothers people that a joke is going on today then here's a tip: go do something else.

My only question is just what, if any, speed challenge is on? Temporarily screwing with the scores is humorous enough because it's reversible. Leaving "DNMC 1" comments is also reversible once it's revealed as a joke.

In contrast, changing challenges midstream is a permanent waste of people's time.

In that vein, I feel I have to ask what happens to those people who had taken time to produce a picture but found out that it was suddenly, unexpectedly, too late through no fault of their own?

They have an extra lovely shot for their portfolio. Its not the end of the world.

With all due respect Cindi, if it had been you then we wouldnt of heard the end of the bitching and whining.

With all due respect I disagree with your assessment of cindi.

Let's keep personalities out it, OK? Starting now.

I haven't even read this thread, but let me tell you what I actually DID do:

I printed out the challenge topic, I went to the store, I bought some new socks, some lollipops, and a bag of ice, and I came home and spent a few hours watching golf and photographing pieces to go into my final "expert" composition.

Guess what?

NONE OF THE PIECES FIT!

Color me ticked off, friends!

Has anyone else noticed that the "Vanish" challenge just-----------------vanished? It sounded like a joke to me from the start, so I worked moving junk out of my yard all day. I didn't find all the things for the challenge in the yard, so didn't enter. Lucky me.
04/01/2007 08:31:31 PM · #116
Wow, 12 entries, hehe! I might actaully pledge to comment on every entry in the entire challenge!
:-D
I'm so dedicated!

Didn't Vanish very far.

Well, the ones who entered have a better than 1 in 4 chance of a ribbon, so maybe the challenge will not be a total bust to the winners, except of course the brown. : P

Just wanted to say in here, I suspect that anyone voting 10s across the board will probably have their votes automatically removed from the system, just like people who vote all 1s. I dunno how it works, so I could be wring, but I think that's the case, so it might be worth distributing your votes just a little.

12 entries... 10 numbers to vote... guess I'm gonna have to give 3 1's

You don't have to give one of each, just not all exactly the same :P
Or lang may have disabled the auto-vote-scrubber-thing for this challenge, I honestly dont know :)

Okay guys, can I put it in a bit of perspective? Imagine if you had chronic pain and every chore or every place outside you went caused you pain. And then imagine you really wanted to do this challenge, and you went and got the stuff for it, making yourself hurt more but thinking it was worth it. Only to find that it wasn't.

I know it cost some people some time and yeah that can be crappy but what I'm trying to say is that it can always be worse.

Ok - having just spent several hours on my Vanish entry - and not having read the forums all day, I am a bit ticked that things went off the way they did.

Canceling the challenge would have been one thing, but closing entries well before the deadline is insult to injury, IMO.

Nobody can say I don't have a sense of humor, but this is the first time in several years I've been here that rug was pulled out from under a challenge like this, so this could not have been anticipated and while all the other jokes were tolerable, put me in the "this was NOT cool" camp. :/
