and it's obviously an april fool's joke. I bet the challenge will reappear later today, especially since ursula hinted at something like that.

Nobody said it doesn't matter anymore. Just wait around a bit :)

Now you're going back on taking back the Vanish challenge? Which is it? I'm getting whiplash. I actually had an idea for Vanish, but thankfully I haven't spent any time on it.

But if now you're saying it wouldn't have been a waste of time, should I go for it or not?

Enough, already.

Better get to voting....

Is everyone so pissed off that no-one wants to start a scores thread?

Smartypants lives up to her name. :)

And patience, grasshoppers, is a virtue. Instead of complaining about the path perhaps the grasshoppers should ask where the path will lead.

I think this is great(unless my score doesn't go back up tomorrow..lol)and shows how gullable we really are and how pissed when our routines are thrown off. Enjoy the rest of your day...lol

and on that note.. once it becomes obvious to most people what day it is, and the fooling has been done.. there's not much call to continue to keep doing it. IMO. That just leads to what is happening now, a lot of people getting tired and a little fed up with it. It's a valid feeling too.

But hey.. we're just the peons. The people in charge will have their fun until midnight regardless.

I agree it's a valid feeling but it's a self centered one, IMO. The site doesn't just cater to those that hang around the site all day in the forums but to everyone and not everyone has experienced the "joke". If it bothers people that a joke is going on today then here's a tip: go do something else.

I propose that you all never enter a challenge again so that I can take all the blue ribbons ok.

My only question is just what, if any, speed challenge is on? Temporarily screwing with the scores is humorous enough because it's reversible. Leaving "DNMC 1" comments is also reversible once it's revealed as a joke.

In contrast, changing challenges midstream is a permanent waste of people's time.

In that vein, I feel I have to ask what happens to those people who had taken time to produce a picture but found out that it was suddenly, unexpectedly, too late through no fault of their own?

everybody lighten up a little bit! it's starting to sound like photography is a chore, not something you do for fun!

Do we know that challenge isn't going to come back tomorrow? I agree removing it did waste people's time (if it doesn't come back) but if you're shooting a wine glass a sock and ice it seems to me you were wasting your time anyway. We all are when we spend any time shooting for a virtual ribbon.

It's not April Fools Until You Get It Day. Besides, I bet in a couple of days, or weeks for some, people will look back and laugh about this whole mess. IM

What a very self-centered and insulting response to people that might just have a Sunday off for relaxation and have chosen to maybe hang around on DPC for awhile. It works both ways.

Anyway, I'm sure Langdon and company knew what the were in for today, and have decided to run with it regardless. Doesn't mean they aren't taking their chances, but it's chances they've decided to take. All the power to them.. but damn I can't wait until it's over. Nothing I hate more than a joke that is over, but people refuse to let it go. Been a bit of a problem on this site over the last year or so.

However, you're right in one respect.. the Sharks/Kings game is on right quick like, so this is my last word on anything.

For those that enjoy what is happening today, enjoy.

For those that don't, I understand why.

For those in between, like me, whattyagonnado? heh.

Ciao.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this, but:

April Fools' day is about harsh but humorous pranks. And it's quite funny for every picture in a Free Study to get the 'dnmc' comment (because of the absurd contradiction), the same way it's quite funny for a challenge called 'Vanish' to vanish...

And sure, people are always upset when they end up being the target of a prank, but if everyone's so angry and so worked up about having been fooled into wasting time photographing a lollipop and a sock, maybe it's time to wonder why you take both yourself and this website quite so seriously.

And with things being all mad and surreal today, it wouldn't surprise me if the vanish challenge reappeared after midnight, just like our scores will.

Ah, now time for the hate mail...

As the challenge is in the voting stage now, I would imagine that no further entries could be submitted. While I concede that I had fun making a picture for the challenge, I could have used the day much more profitably in other ways and I imagine that those who also worked on it and could not submit could have, too. I agree with the bit about the virtual ribbon.

Are you kidding? These people can't even figure out that you can leave a "DNMC 1" comment without actually voting 1.
