If you're looking to compete with other entrants, the you have to be prepared for those who
a) have better equipment than you
b) have more time than you
c) have more experience and knowledge than you of:
c.1) photography and
c.2) digital image processing, not to mention
c.3) dpc challenges
d) have a studio
e) live in a more photogenic environment than you
f) got lucky
g) have a really good-looking spouse, friend etc.
What's worse is that there's a whole lot who have all the list.
I actually chickened out of voting on free study because of the phenomenally high standard. My entry rolled in around 330th. It's pretty, but too much of a wallflower to make itself noticed. No problem.
The lizard picture is good, especially that colourful and pin-sharp eye. Problems in the dpc context or generally would be in that only about 20% of the whole image surface is in focus, which makes for some dead space, in addition to which those reptiles stay still and make good close-up models, so we've seen quite a few similar shots.
No reason to beat yourself up, but a reason to kick yourself behind and get better. |
i totally agree with that |
