I've lost my spark, my inspiration, my drive. Actually I dropped the spark inna vodka bottle and it's gone out. I want to relight it but can't find the light. Please, I beg of you, show me one of your favorite shots that you've taken recently. It don't need to be your best, just one YOU like a lot. And please tell me why you like it so much. I really need the inspiration...

One of my favorites done recently (last month.)

I like it because of the colors in the sky, the reflection in the water, and the uniqueness of a silhouette for the skyline. It doesn't look like something someone would just take as a snapshot. Could it be better? Sure, but I was very happy with it.

Maybe you could try a PAD project to get in the groove. Good luck!

I was in the same kind of rut you were a couple of weeks ago, and I was not so interested in the shots I was making and repeating my photos it seemed like to me. I took a whole day to myself and went to the coast. I saw this scene unfold in front of me for a few minutes, as the father watched surfers and the daughter playing in the sand, with a recent storm passing overhead. I took around 20 shots as the clouds and light changed and I got excited again about photography. My advice is to go somewhere completely knew for a day and just see what you find. It really helped me.

I like the moment I captured here. Can't really say why other than I think it shows the mother daughter relationship really well. The editing may not be to your liking though.

A recent favorite shot of mine is this one (which tanked in headwear but I knew the kid haters would be out in force):

You just can't help but chuckle at that face. ;)

Hope you pull out of your "funk" quickly...just look at your son and your wife, and think of all the reasons they cause you to see the beauty in your world.

Taken partially on accident. I was at the air show waiting for the hot air balloons to fire up. It was really dusty and a troop of Civil Air Patrol kids come marching by in full uniform. With the dust and the back lighting I thought it could make a real dramatic shot. By the time I grab my camera I have time for just one shot, and I had no time to change the settings to get a faster shutter. Thus the motion blur.

I like the feel of the photo. I think I like it better this way then I would if I would have set it up the way I'd have wanted?

i was on my way home from an out-of-town assignment, and i had to stop for gas. there were a bazillion birds perched up on the sign beside the station. i watched them all fly off, circle, and come back. i immediately thought AZNYM!!! grabbed my camera, and ran over to watch them do it again.

i shot a girls basketball game last saturday. it's been 8 months since i shot basketball, and i was wondering how long it was going to take me to get back in the groove. didn't take but a couple minutes. just settled right in for an awesome afternoon of non-stop action.

I had spent the day in Roanoke shooting portraits for an upcoming magazine article. The ride over that morning was simply agonizing: as I cruised down 81, watching the sun come through the clouds and wash over the gloriously painted mountains and lush green pastures, all I wanted to do was stop to capture the imagery. But I couldn't.

I promised myself some selfish time for the ride home, because sometimes, you have to take moments for yourself, just to have reminders as to why you love what you do. It's too easy to get so caught up in your work that it becomes a job, rather than a vocation.

Even though it was late in the day, I decided to take the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as I could before it got too late. This was shot just about sunset, just a bit south of Lexington. Even though I didn't really have much time, this was the image I had had in my mind when I set out. It was worth the effort (especially driving down State Rd 56 in the dark--10 miles of hairpin turns!).

i had been shooting some portraits, and decided to have some fun. my subjects all seemed to be in the mood for something different as well. so, i took my camera and got right up to their face...up-close-and-personal. it was a different way of looking at things, at least for me.

------------------------------
good luck, dude! best advice i can give you is to just to read this post... ;-)

This is one of my favorite photos ever, also one of my lowest scoring.

I guess it wasn't purple enough for a purple challenge, although this has more purple in it than some high placing images in other color challenges.

I like it becuase of the difficult lighting, the highlight in the hair, the look on her face, and the mood of the shot.

Here's a thread I started about how things can come together.

Go out and shoot, you don't have to go far.

It doesn't take much to please me - other than a beautiful fall day on a quiet beach.

You sure you're not saying that because it's your wife? :P

Seriously, I see what you're saying.

That too! She's in a lot of my entries though. Maybe I like this one more because it scored so low. There's just something different and special about it, probably only to me. Although Posthumous must have liked it. His comment on it is a classic!

This was my submission for last month's free challenge. My girlfriend is actually afraid of horses so when I saw this moment I knew that I had to grab it. As for liking it? I have it printed and on my desk at work and its my wallpaper at home. Somehow its not my highest rated photo. (Seems to be a theme here...)

Start journaling. Seriously. Turned my creativity around totally.
Ask me if you want to know more.

I like this one. I love abstracts. This is just a heavily processed piece of wood but I LOVE it. (plus it looks just a little like a llama)

And this one. I even created a thread to see what people thought it looked like. To me it is a chicken in a stocking cap & scarf on a sled. :P

this is my favorite because i'm VERY shy and I dont like to be noticed in real life. I just want to blend in and fade away. So I was so scared to set up this shot on my lawn in front of the neighbors and MY face was bright red the entire time I set it up and was shooting. I was soooooo embarrassed and soooooo scared someone would come ask me what I was doing but I did it anyway(even though I almost chickened out a few times) and It was a big step for me. so It is one of my favorites. also my two latest challenge entries because the model was my first non family model and it took so guts for me to do as well. but honestly I did a horrible job of directing. I have a LOT to learn. lol.

My two favorite images of the moment are both candid snapshots. They're not great and they wont win any prizes but they make me feel something when I look at them and so to me that makes them a favorite.

I like it for the expressions and the emotions that I see in their faces. I can empathize by looking at the image. Things were different before that shot and no doubt are very different now, but at that particular time and place that was what they were experiencing.

I get a sense of exploration and wonder from this shot. It makes me smile at the simple enjoyment it seems she is having by dancing. It makes me think of the innocence of youth and the journey that a person takes through their life.

this would have to be one of my most recent favorites. I am not sure how many people realized the reflection and i was pissed that i shot it a week too soon. Anyway i like it because i am normally lazy but decided i wanted to do this shot that i had in my head for a while. anyway i shot it and was pleased and showed it to some DPC friends who all liked it but had some comments so i actually reshot it which I never ever do. it came out better and i was proud that i could hold that serving knife still for a full second. this shot was proof to myself that i could do the things that other people do if i really put forth the effort.

here is my original shot BTW.

I had the windmill lying around and knew it would make a good prop. But everything I tried sucked. Luckily I threw it into my bag and came across these bright blue boat sheds.
Try *drinking that vodka with good company and suck your soul back out of it. That has also worked for me :p

*Disclaimer: this is an irresponsible recommendation made under the assumption we are responsible adults :D

I go pretty flat a lot myself. Then Gretchen comes to visit with Rosie Jack, and I start to watch Rosie seeing the world afresh, and I tend to snap out of it :-)

I just find that it's often rejuvenating to get in front of the camera and become an actor as well as photographer.

I like this, despite there being no obvious subject. I like the morning sunrise colours, and the steam coming off the river. It looked much better in real life though, which tells me I need to improve my skills!

Taken at Serendipity farm park on the weekend.

Edited to add why I like it so much. The beauty that natures provides, the vulnerability of the newly hatched gosling, the tender loving care with which the mother tends her eggs

This image nearly made me loose my spark, due to the fact I entered ir into the wrong challenge recently.

Looking at it today, yes, I can say I am still mad and disappionted with myself, as it was a supid thing to do.
But, in saying all that, it is also one of the most moving, and emotive images, I will proberly ever do.

It still means the world to me, not only because is is on my son and his Dad, but because of what they are sharing, due to this special time they had together.

They are my whole life, and this image will always be very special to me always, forever and ever.....
