I had spent the day in Roanoke shooting portraits for an upcoming magazine article. The ride over that morning was simply agonizing: as I cruised down 81, watching the sun come through the clouds and wash over the gloriously painted mountains and lush green pastures, all I wanted to do was stop to capture the imagery. But I couldn't.

I promised myself some selfish time for the ride home, because sometimes, you have to take moments for yourself, just to have reminders as to why you love what you do. It's too easy to get so caught up in your work that it becomes a job, rather than a vocation.

Even though it was late in the day, I decided to take the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as I could before it got too late. This was shot just about sunset, just a bit south of Lexington. Even though I didn't really have much time, this was the image I had had in my mind when I set out. It was worth the effort (especially driving down State Rd 56 in the dark--10 miles of hairpin turns!).

[thanks, jimmy! hope ya'll had a great time!!]

Great capture! And yeah, we had a great time. Looks like you did too. Glad you made it outta there in the dark too - those roads can be tough at night! ;-)

Lovely view. This layered look is always enjoyable and you've captured it in a flattering manner. BTW, you're off 1 pixel from a true panorama aspect ratio. :D

Smile and keep having fun!
