I did not enter this challenge, but did vote and comment.

IMO there were a few shoehorns.

For the most part, alot of great pix.

Good luck to all.

@Faye Pekas

Desolate and desolation are the same thing - adjective and noun and its alright to have them confused because they mean the same thing. Uninhabited is a perfectly good interpretation.

Desolation

n 1: the state of being decayed or destroyed [syn: devastation] 2: a bleak and desolate atmosphere [syn: bleakness] 3: sadness resulting from being forsaken or abandoned [syn: forlornness, loneliness] 4: an event that results in total destruction [syn: devastation]
====

It really depends on what comes off the top of ones mind when viewing a photo. If LONELY comes as the first thought, then IMO the photo is not about desolation. There are very few photos in this challenge that depict or evoke the feeling of desolation. Many of the photos have inaccurate symbolism or something else comes to mind when viewing them. The few that do succeed showing or evoking desolation, do it very well.

Such utter B.S. I particularly like how someone left a definition as a comment:

"Sorry, but I am not convinced of Desolation.

Definitions of desolation on the Web:

*devastation: the state of being decayed or destroyed
*bleakness: a bleak and desolate atmosphere; "the nakedness of the landscape"
*forlornness: sadness resulting from being forsaken or abandoned
*devastation: an event that results in total destruction"

Thanks jerk but I already know what the word means. Why don't you look up the words in your own definition? I'm sorry if this comes out as egotistical but there isn't a more technically crafted image in this challenge that screams desolation, forlorness, sadness, hopelessness and utter abandonment more than my image. And to think I came back to enter after 3 weeks away for this. Unreal.

I got the same comment, yanko, and I think I meet number 3 pretty well, but I'm not complaining because at least I know why one person is giving me a low vote. My other 2 comments are what I'm used to: they tell me my favorite thing about my picture and say that is what's wrong with it.

Yeah looking at some of the other posts I've read here it wouldn't surprise me however he/she clearly isn't the only one who decided to take on an extremely narrow view one where he/she clearly doesn't even read the actually definitions they post. There are some images in this challenge I will be really interested to see where they place in relation to others. My guess is there will be lots of hypocrisy in the results.

I'm just north of Timfythtoo, and my scores are tied with his.
Come on all you voters, mines the dismal looking one with the four square corners!

Comments, comments, comments, please comment and critique. You opinions are welcome and important to me. I was hoping to be in the top 10. Live and learn.

The Trolls have awaken! Score started the downhill section...
If my prior DPC experience is worth anything, I'll finish next sunday night with a 5.2 (currently at 5.6)

I have great comments, though, and I am happy with the shot I did.

Low number of votes, though - only 49
