This thread looks ripe for a ... *bump* :o) Any more questions?

I have one. How many SC members frequent the Fanatics Chat and do you discuss DQ's or other SC matters as a 'sub group' seperately from the normal SC discussions?

I would definitely say that the SC members who do come into Fanatics Chat are smart enough to not say anything that would harm their seat on SC

I realize this, however, I ask because I don't go into chat, and have seen SC discussions arise because of discussions that have taken place in chat. I know there is private chat in Fanatics, which is why I've asked.

There are a handful of us (4 or 5) that are on there regularly, but we never discuss SC/DQ matters publicly, and very infrequently discuss them privately - Its much easier to keep things in the forums. We occasionally get users contact the SC via chatting to us directly, but we always move that to the forums for the rest of the SC before any action is taken.

About 9 of us use chat with any type of frequency (I'd say 5-7 of those are regulars). The format of the chat is not very conducive to discussion of any Site Council issues (it would be way too easy to slip and accidentally post something publically) so I'm not aware of it being used for that purpose with any frequency.

We do occasionally get questions from users there. We handle those the same as we would a question that came to us voa PM (or Instant Messenger). If it's easy/has a clear answer, we answer it. If it requires SC discussion we tell the person we'll get back to them and post the question to the SC forums.

Is a private conversation in Fanatics different from a telephone call, or an IM through MSN messenger, or a PM through this site? Speaking as a member, I'm very comfortable with lots of SC discussion on any important matter regardless of forum.

Edited to add: I've never seen any improper discussion in Fanatics, although I've only recently started joining in conversation there.

Of the above I'd consider it most similar to an IM through AIM/MSN/Yahoo messenger, except the interface is clunkier. It's certainly easier to just use the SC forum or one of those media than to use chat for anything lengthier than "make sure you go check out this thread in the SC forum." As to group SC conversations, those would be impossible in chat (well, technically I suppose one could create an invitation-only room, but I've never seen anyone, SC or otherwise, use that feature).

When an issue is posted that stems from something in chat, it is typically because a registered user/member brings up an issue to us there, and we in turn forward it to the entire Site Council for review, just as we would an issue they brought to us via PM or IM.

There are times, when we ask "is this legal?: they answer us if its something we want to do or they say post it to the forum inthe form of a question if its somethign that everyone needs to hear or if we think something is illegal they ask us to request a dq... WITHOUT further chat on it then we leave it to SC to look into it...we never hear except in the forums how things were handled...

As for the SC who com in Fanatics Chat... 8 come in at times, Langdon's been in there too ... So if we count him, 9 come in at times.

What if there is a tie in a challenge?

Has this ever happened?

Not really about the SC...but I was curious.

It has happened. I think Konador was tied with somebody in an earlier challenge, so there were two red ribbons and no yellow.

Hmm... I think in such a situation, the number of '10' votes would be used as a tiebreaker. I can't remember an instance of this ever happening tho...

The score calculation mechanism does not detect this automatically. If it happens with a ribbon-winner, Drew or Langdon will manually change the PLACE value of the entry to correct the problem. If it happens with an entry below ribbon level, no correction is made and the entries are left in the order they were assigned by the score calculation system.

Ahh yes, vaguely remember that now, definitely a fair solution to a tie.

I never asked about improper discussion. I also believe that as many SC should be involved in a discussion as possible. My reason for asking was that I feel like I sometimes walk in on an already 1/2 finished discussion on something that was discussed in Fanatics. Something like 'We decided this, and thought we'd share it with the rest of you.'
I feel like I have nothing to add since it's already been discussed. I supose that it's not just Fanatics, it could be IM, PM, other chat as well, but I wanted to know since I see it frequently.
Another example is that I have a question and ask it and get a reply such as 'we decided this' or 'I personally talked to Drew and he said this'.
I don't do the 'other chat' things, and do feel left out sometimes.
Did NOT suggest ANY improper discussions. Sorry if it came across that way.

I find it shocking that the SC hasn't come clean about several things. For example, the annual private island 2 week getaway, the private jets, the luxury yachts, the sports cars, the mind reading powers, the hit squad that does your bidding, etc.

C'mon, tell us the real story. While you lounge about in the lap of luxury, deciding the fate of us all, I'm here in my freezing cold secure underground facility, trying to make the truth known, freezing my behind off wearing my tinfoil hat and underpants.

Actually you're wrong there. Those are the SC's servants' quarters.

Is it true the SC continually changes my scores just to hold me down? Admit it! You know its true! Why is the man always keeping me down?

The latest research suggests that these techniques actually amplify rather than deflect undesired radiations. But by all means continue to wear them regularly.
