I'm a geek (IT) auditor for a large U.S. bank. Before that I was a geek. Before that I was a photographer. Before that I was an electronics store manager. Before that I was a German language teacher. Now I just want to retire and do this photography thing.

In my case, this is what I do for money for my kids!! :) (I've had 3 in college for the past several years.) Today I am a "Risk Management Specialist" with a large state agency - manage Worker's Compensation claims, FMLA, deal with HIPAA compliance, accident investigations, etc. I have a degree in anthropology - which is from the last millenium, and I lack 6 hours for a degree in photojournalism (which was also in the last millenium). I really regret not finishing that degree. I have always loved and "fiddled with" my photography. Now that I am down to two children at home (and don't have three in college at the same time to support), I have a little more time to work on doing this thing I love. Digital photography still seems like magic to me.

I run the Transportation Lab for a major appliance company.

Basically, I get paid to break things. And to find better ways to break things. People get mad when I break their stuff and they don't think it should have broken, but other people get more mad when I don't break stuff I should have and it is broken when it get to the customer's house. I walk a fine line.

I'm a senior software engineer, currently developing bandwidth management and usage reporting software for enterprise network systems.

But, even though I spend most of my waking hours either working or playing on a computer, I AM NOT A GEEK!!!

Started in medicine in 1983 and worked for the next 11 years as a paramedic for the city of NY. I then became a registered nurse and have worked in critical care, the ER, neurosurgery and general medicine where I am now. Currently living in the suburbs of NYC but contemplating a move up to the country for reasons of natural beauty and photography and sanity. I would love to leave the rat race for good and make a living at some kind of home based business. Got any ideas?

I sometimes feel I perform the same function for publishing software -- unfortunately I don't work for the developers but an end-user :(

I work for "Big Blue" as a Technical Team Lead. Basically, I am responsible for the team that does the computer support for one of our client's operating companies.

I also have a small web design business on the side, and am working on getting more into phot0graphy.

While hubby still works full time as a sign manufaturer to pay the mortgage & clothe & feed 3 kids (which takes A LOT in NY! lol) I run my own business from home doing full color photo imprinting with a specialization in lighthouse photography and a small side nitch with a few Powered Parachute air shows each yr.

In laymens terms, I put photographic (& graphic) images on just about anything containing a polymer surface, and take the biz on the road & producing on site at a few select air shows. This yr I am also gearing part of it to a full line of lighthouse imaged products. I work with the Long Island Lighthouse Society producing items they use to fundraise for rebuilding Cedar Island Lighthouse & am also becoming active in fundraising for Fibromyalgia research.

Our hope in the future is to grandfather his sign making in with my business down the road since the 2 business types overlap quite often. Besides, I love the creation part a hell of a lot more than the sales part & he's better at sales ;)

We're heading in the right direction, but it can only grow as fast as the kids will allow ;)

Zeuszen, wish I had your job. ;)

I'm a college student in VT, graduating next year with a Bachelor's in Multimedia. Doing my internship this summer in NJ/NYC, and planning to move there after graduation to get a job in the entertainment industry.
Currently working on my college's video lab, doing events filming, set-up, directing of live editing, etc...

...and of course, begging parents as well.
