That is a very interesting idea!
I somehow feel this challenge may not have been the ideal challenge for this type of commenting. DNMC has another variable thrown in! Not only do the we need to justify our interpretation of the challenge description but also the voters/commentators interpretation of the novel. |

I agree very much... I would have liked this exercise to have been done on a more straight-forward challenge. |

THat's actually more or less what I dream of: one day entering an image that's so powerful it gets nothing but 9's and 10's, except for the usual cranky outliers with their 3's and 2's... |

I wonder if Ansel Adams, if he bothered to care at all, would have that "ideal" as the reception he hoped for when he created his best work. I can't speak for Mr. Adams, but I would bet against it.
My goals are: A) to satisfy myself, and B) have the audience tend towards higher scores (maybe not 9s and 10s, but at least weighted in that direction. And, frankly, looking for Mark's "all 10s" would be fine for those of us who are more driven for excellence. It won't happen on this site, of course, if only because of the "cranky outliers with their 3's and 2's" as Bear so aptly mentions. |

That wouldn't be an ideal world Anita. That would be a horrible world.
The ideal world - the ideal anything - is defined and redefined by disagreement, diversity and jagged edges, not by consensus.
It's mediocrity that's defined by consensus. |

Even Jesus had his mug torn down from the walls by Christians. What sort of apocalyptic horror would receive all tens?
Speaking of apocalypse, welcome back, Paul. |

Well, the day I get all 10s is when you know the world is ending. I'll keep people posted if this happens. |

G'day friends. Thanks for the welcome. I'd had an idle hour flicking through some recent forum threads incl this one. Another was Is photography Dead? And Is DPC dying? (both "No" in my view). I was inspired to make an effort to participate here again, first by trying Don's comment on every vote challenge, but it's just too difficult on my super-slow steam-powered 3G connection ... I live deep in the bush now. But hopefully I can submit the occasional wildlife photograph, and of course provide a calming influence in the forums.
Cheers to you all.

Looking forward for some of your soothing words. And photographs of things unseen, unseeable, unperceivable but ubiquitous. |

And to think that your first comment was toward a comment I made, albeit to slightly ruffle my feathers!! Well I may of made that comment with my tongue in cheek, it would be boring to always come to the same consensus, when it comes to art.... |

After the 5'th comment, without knowing about postie's project, I knew something strange was afoot.
Sincere comments all over the place.
Loooong comments. Yippee!!
I'll take a comment over a 10 any day, so it has really been a pleasure opening DPC these past few days to see what has been added.
Thank you ever so much. |

Well, I did it. Time for chips falling, etc. Some have already fallen, but now come the rest.
Stats: You have rated 84 of 84 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 84 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 4.8810.
All that's left is some bumping of the high scores as I pick my art gallery. |

How come 84/84 votes is 100% but 84/84 comments is 99%? The same thing with all the posted stats.
