For those who like to explore the artistic use of the camera, a series of Abstract: Challenges.
Such as -
Abstract: Nature
Abstract: Black and White
Abstract: Emotion (or sadness, joy, peaceful etc...)
Abstract: Color (Blue, sepia, etc...)
Abstract: Landscape

The idea would be create an artistic interpretation vs a regular tack sharp in-the-box shot.
Having seen so many of these shots here, I thought a type of challenge that celebrates the style would do well.

Yes, please!! +2

I need to change things up -- this would be a great opportunity!

I'd like one of each. :)

Wonderful idea.

Good, very good.
It would be interesting to see concurrent challenges, one abstract, and the other for the sharp and clear pix. both with the same subject,

Ohhh! That would be cool!

I'd love it! It'd be especially fun to vote on if it was possible to enter both challenges at once--traditional & abstract--with the same subject.

NOW there's a unique idea...

Instead of exclusive challenges, how about an INCLUSIVE challenge. If you wish to enter one you are compelled to enter the other. Same title, same subject, same shoot, same time, different technique.. How fun would that be???

Abstracts intimidate me. What better way to get over this than to dive into a challenge on the subject?

The simultaneous abstract/traditional challenge idea is also very intriguing.

I love the idea of being required to do two, LOL — but it will never happen. Just regular/frequent abstract challenges would be great.

I've unleashed a monster!

I think the inclusive challenge is a great idea, two shots from the same session sounds like it would be very cool to create.

Maybe a side challenge then?

No, a real challenge.

I would love this! But please hold of for a couple of weeks as I̢۪m off to Hawaii next Wednesday for two weeks without internet. I haven̢۪t really gotten the hang of producing good abstract but they̢۪re normally the images I appreciate most when voting. Here are a few of my earlier attempts that I̢۪ve entered in challenges except for two that are still in voting:

Ok, enough self indulging – I would love this as a challenge and see what the masters can produce.

Definitely an enjoyable topic. I can see this sitting in the suggestion thread for quite some time before showing up at rollover.

As an aside. Abstracts can be quite sharp, but as you said, it should not be "in the box".

Plenty of architectural abstracts as well that are usually sharp.

Hmmmmm...I don't know if I could do another abstract entry. The last one was entertaining but exhausting.

I love abstract because doing them gets me looking at familiar things in new and fun ways. Might as well toss a handful of my own into the thread.

And this one just got 16th in "Low Key" — sharp as a tack...

or do this as a diptych photography challenge ... show the subject clear, then in the abstract, side by side (or otherwise combined)
