It has probably been said over and over again...and I'm not a master editor...but I think all free study's should be master challenges. Why not let you show off that one thing that you have been working on for the entire month...you don't work on an advanced photo for an entire month, you work on the master edited photo...actually I'd like to see no rules for freestudy's except photos being taken within the challenge, but will settle for masters editing for all freestudys. |

This has been considered before -- that ribbon is devalued compared to all the other ribbons because the competition wasn't open to everyone, specifically those who might well have been in contention. It's also why we don't run challenges just for our younger members -- everybody competing equally and anonymously seems to me to be a core principle of the site which we should try to avoid eroding. |
This is so off-the charts retarded, it's hardly worth responding to. Devalued? Unfair because the competition wasn't open to everyone?
EXCUSE ME? lol.
A master's challenge wouldn't be open to everyone, would it? Kind of devalues the ribbon if you're only letting the elite play in their special sandbox. Can't let those peons ruin those chances for MORE ribbons, can we?
Member challenges aren't open to everyone. We have THOSE every week (and no, it's not "open to everyone" even if those people that aren't members can become members, because not everyone CAN, at any given moment).
Do you even think before spouting off?

Exactly my thoughts Ed, was just about to post:-
but then a 'Master's Only' challenge, also states, to the non-ribbon winners, you are really very poor and don't deserve to be here etc etc etc
but you say it much better than me!!!

Sheesh! I said it was "what had been previously expressed in earlier discussions" -- it's not even necessarily my own opinion.
Besides, if there's anyone with an interest in a challenge open only to those who have an average under 5 it would be me ... :-( |

............but if the site core principle is everybody competing equally and anonymously, then why have a Master Challenge in the first place, nevermind even having the discussion of a challenge for non ribbon winners, challenge for above this average or below this average, next it will be a challenge for canon owner's only with the F2.8 400L lens.
IMHO, the original Master Challenge should never have happened in the first place as it stinks of elitism!!

Ok everybody, out of the pool! Let's keep this positive. The last MFS was a big huzzah for DPC and we had lots of oldtimers come out of the woodwork to provide great shots. Wouldn't it be worth it just to see De Sousa whip up something from his insane genius? Plus we might see toddhead's wife naked again! |

A masters challenge is like a playoff game in a league championship, nobody in their right mind would say it is easier to ribbon in it because some members are not admitted to play. In reality, it is much harder ...as opposed to a challenge for no-ribbon members where winning a ribbon would feel a bit like cheating.
It is not elitism, it is meritocracy :) |

Hmm... you have to be a member to vote in the member challenges, right?
So would you have to be a "master" in order to vote in the "Master's Free Study?" |

Agree...it would be like cheating to win ribbon in a challenge for non-ribbon members only also...that is why I disagree with both!!!
Just leave it as it is.

I don't know what the hoopla is all about. The ribbons have been devalued looong ago and the last MFS was sort of a joke anyway. There are few people past and present that were a) good and b) took it seriously. If we ran it again it'll probably just be another dumping ground for certain ribbon hogs to spam us with the same old tired outtakes.

But we have fresh blood, one of whom you were just talking to. I'd love to see them let loose. Otherwise, if you don't really want to see what people have to offer, why are you here? Don't let the door hit you on the way out... :P |

Boorish and childish. I am offended by this kind of juvenile baiting. If I "Report post" and it gets hidden, it will look like the person it was directed at did the hiding, since he is SC. If I do nothing, yet another loudmouth gets away with something. What a nasty little conundrum. |

Can someone lock this thread? There is no chance at all of having a MFS if the response is going to be playground antics. |

I say, let the Master's challenge happen.
Those who like it, will be happy. Those who don't, will have to deal with it just like any other challenge they don't like.
Some people like challenges that have been done a ton (aka Yellow 5), other people complain.
Some people like challenges that have never been done before (Rusted), other people complain.
So this is just like any other challenge, and negative feedback should be mainly ignored as the ramblings of those who are never happy with anything anyways :-) |
