Based on a comment in another thread regarding a discussion of fine art photography, I am posting a few examples from this site that I believe would do extremely well in any of the juried exhibits/competitions that I have witnessed. There are a lot of examples on DPChallenge of images that would be quite strong in this arena:
"Peek" by Alecia
"Rehearsal" by Alecia
"Still Waters" by
sher9204
"Connection" by moodville
"The Touch of a Master" by nikon_girl
"Simplicity" by connie
These are just a few examples that I pulled from my favorites list here on DPC. There are many more. These images all seem to have the same sorts of qualities that I see when I go to an exhibit. A lot of people here should be striving to enter juried competitions. It would actually be nice if we had a list of links for places where we could submit our work. I have quite a few bookmarked and I will post some of those to another thread sometime today.

| Maybe, if you have time, you could state why you think they would do good in a juried show. What is it that makes them more than "another" shot. I am serious. You have a lot of experience and, imo, everyone here would be richer if you have the time to share your knowledge with us. |

Here are examples of what I'd consider fine art images as a somewhat seperate genre:

I find photo.net to be a constant source of inspiration. The highest-rated photo section is filled with great work. I find the audience there is much more open-minded than DPC, which isn't saying much.
Some recent examples of what I would consider good 'fine art' photography:
//www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2859433
//www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2856849
//www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2855040&size=lg
//www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2836721
As in any subjective classification, 'fine art' might not be the same for everyone. I see fine art photography as being approached with forethought and planning in much the same way as one would approach a painting, sculpture or other less immediate art form. There is care in every aspect of the presentation. Good fine art photography, to me, has elements of impressionism. There is a concerted effort to produce an image that is representative of an experience. In this way it differs from a journalistic style, which attempts to be objective or appeal to a broader interpretation of events.

This is difficult to do. How well any particular image will do in a juried competition is up to the jury. I just posted these images because they have the look and feel of a many photos I have seen displayed as winners of juried shows. Lots of juried competitions are also themed, so your image must 'meet the challenge' in some way :)

| In an attempt to differentiate these shots from the technically good ones. The one thing I notice is that the lighting (at least in the shots posted so far) gives way to the shots feeling 'moody' they all exhibit or draw me in emotionally. |

OK. I have one to add also because it does make me think and causes an emotional reaction every time I see it.
so simple and casual and imperfect, yet so full of meaning, for me anyway. |
