I can completely agree with the boring aspect of 'shooting pretty'. I think again that has been another reason for my sudden lack of interest in photography over the last couple of months.

I'm having a major creative block with my photography right now. It looks like I'm not alone with my current lack of enthusiasm.
I think I'll take a break or something.
Cheers!

Cross your ankles jonpink, your excessive modesty is showing. As you knew when you opened the thread most of us would be very happy to have your success.

Not somthing I've ever looked at but it was fun going through the 100 (oh my God!!!!) challenges I've entered.

If Gary (kiwiness) doesn't submit soon I'll cath up!!! ;-)

My ratio is horrible.

I think the original poster saying his ratio was "poor" was just a way to make us average photographers feel bad. :(

0 of 27. My highest is 34th place. But 3 people chose Rhythm Randall as their favorite photo, even a ribbon winner chose it :)

Yay!!!

I have to give crabappl3 a BIG round of applause. Not one score below 5 in his last 119 straight challenges. Daniel, you don't seem to get the same recognition as kiwiness or jacko, but you clearly know your stuff. :-)

add to favorites...

Thanks, but I'm breaking the 119 streak tonight with my 4.50 Advertising shot! I do believe I'll take this week off ;-)

Whoops! Sorry about the bad timing. I'm sure you didn't need THAT little reminder. Ironically, product advertising photos are my strong suit and I didn't get a chance to enter that one.

2/42 in 10%
8/42 for top 20%
I started out to improve/learn techniques and make pretty pictures but recently, I've started to want to take pictures that have some sort of emotional meaning for me. Pretty is nice and I enjoy it for the moment I see it, but true emotion imbeds itself into my memory.

You have to ask yourself a question why you are here, ... to have fun, to improve your technique and learn, to share your pictures and have comments from other photographers, to forget about your daily problems and relax, or to compete and have an adrenalin rush, or because all of the above,... like me. My goal this year was to break 6.0 on an entry and I did it :) I don't always agree with the results and comments, it usually doesn't bother me too much, but I analyze them. I am just trying to have a good time. Of course, it is nice to have a good score... I hope to break 7.0 one day, and then there will be a new goal.

Well my first top 15.
13th Place.
Thanx for the votes!

0/3 and probably will stay at 0, there are so many excellent photographers on this site. I just average, oh well maybe one day I will get lucky :)
07/14/2004 02:14:37 AM · #98
27/97 what's that, about 28%?

It's getting harder and harder as so many great photographers on this site, now!

It's also true that many have no interest in rankings--and I'm grateful, for there are so many great shots that never win ribbons.

not so good... next one is 15th than 38th and it seems that I score lowerer and lowerer. I would like to think that is due to the increasing number of dSLR :)

This statement made me do some surfing, being a fellow non-slr owner, to see if there is any truth to the slr myth. I noticed when I first joined the site that the slr's seemed to be doing really well, but it was just a fad that week:

In the last 10 challenges, there were 30 ribbons handed out, 15 to slr owners, 15 to non-slr users.

And.. The 4 dSLR's represented (300D, 10D, D100 & D70) reperasent 3028 users on the site, or 13% of the total 23835 users.. The 13 models of non-slr's make up for 2939 users, or 12% of the user base. So for roughly the same number of users, the ribbons got split 50/50.

On those grounds I'd say you've got pretty fair odds of winning a ribbon with a shot from any camera you like to pick, regaurdless of model/make, assuming it's on topic, in focus, well exposed, appealing etc.

Appologies to any SLR owner who got their camera to win on dpc :-). The dSLR's certainly have an advantage in real world photography, but in the world of dpc, they are on an even footing with everything else it would seem.

For my part, and back to the original question on this thread... I've not got a top 10, out of 7 entries so far, and my words one is not going to break my streak. I'm happy with my scores, and think this site is a great community for learning and enjoying photography as a hobby.
