I like what mitalapo added to the Paolo Pelegrin quote about unfinished pictures:
"... commenting allows viewers to create the dialogue that unfinished pictures strive for. In the rare case where the dialogue brings about interpretations unforeseen by the photographer, the picture becomes a piece of art independent of its creator, and the photographer becomes an artist. This is impossible with a "finished" picture, since the photographer already thought of and clarified everything, making the picture a monologue."
And with many comments the picture expands. |

I'm seriously considering giving about 15 blues, 15 reds and 15 yellows. I'm not sure how else to do it. |
I have no problem with this!
Oh wait -- there are a lot of entries, so my chances are still low.
ah, what the heck! I still have no problem with this. :D

It's down from 6.2+, but who could be unhappy with these numbers? I am elated. The comments are wonderful. |

Considering the comment I received, I will not be receiving any of these, but I say go for it! Always an honor and what better challenge than this one. :-) |

I say do it!
Or if you don't want the Ribbon to become of "lesser value" so to say, by giving out too many, you could give out 3 ribbons AND make an art gallery like you sometimes do for free studies. |

I like that idea, actually. Makes perfect sense to me.

You need a broader spectrum. I would be fine with the fuchsia ribbon. |
Seriously, though, that seems like a lot to me. Why not ten of each plus ten honorable mentions? |

You should only pick three winners and then send chocolate to the rest of us.

Would be interesting to see your 1st, 2nd, 3rd versus that of the voters. |

How about a little picture frame thingie for the Posthumous Gallery images. Then there would be something for people to put on their profile pages. |

I agree, I am looking forward to seeing how the popular vote lines up with Don's picks.

Yup. I figure the ultimate winners are the top three vote getters that also get positive nods from Don. That way, not only did they win the challenge by popular opinion, but they won the challenge by meeting the description, as well.

Well, one thing is for certain, Don will do what he wants with his ribbons...consult FocusPoint first!

Same here. I can spell, I just can't type, which is why you see so many of my posts with an "edited" line.

I very rarely think of DNMCs in any challenge anymore. I just take each image as it is in good faith that the challenge topic acted as a springboard for that photographers imagination. The only DNMC's i remember that annoyed me had quite specific 'rules', the '47 Steps' challenge for example (from your front door walk 47 steps-take a photo)- that was just the sort of challenge i like and thought it a shame that some people did not step up to it. Also one in the 'One in 7 Billion' where you had to find a character in your neighborhood and i wasn't sure if someone had just used a model or not. Even with those two cases though i doubt i'd get as annoyed now as i did then.
As it is i don't think i'd see any of the images Oliver linked to, or even the wine glass, as DNMC here. I probably wouldn't vote that high on the wine glasses as i don't particularly like them. I don't think the images linked to are particularly strong examples of that photographers work (apart from Don's there which i do really like). I'm not a particularly low voter though.
This is how i would vote those images, as they appeal to me, in this challenge...
=3 =3 =5 =7 =8

That's quite interesting, Clive. I just posted these examples to show that almost any given "posthumous fan" happened to have eye candy in their challenge entries, I notice quite a similarity in our - theoretical - voting on these images.
These would be my votes, if they were entered in this challenge:
=4 =4 =3 =8 =7
I think there can't be DNMCs in this challenge |

ok I narrowed down 45 to 7 so far... I think I will pick a small number of ribbons if only to satisfy people's curiosity... but I'll do an art gallery, too... |
