Outside of gas and public transportation (most places I usually just walk to, so my costs there are minimumal and fit in with my normal transportation bills), the only 2 pictures where I've bought props for are:
Big jar of peanut butter, peanuts, mini newspaper and mini-toilet for around $40. The peanut butter and peanuts were eaten, so I chalk that up to being part of the food bill. The mini props I donated to my mom's dollhouse collections, so while I spent $$$ it earned me some brownie points with my folks :P So Overall, it was more like $25.
Pack of balloons ~ $5.00 maybe?

Wolf, unless I'm mistaken I think you are (after this thread reaching the third page) the second person (I'm the other) who has mentioned the value of the cost of their expenses! Excluding those who claim no cost.
I'd've thought it would be a fairly obvious thing to do! :)

I have never bought camera equipment for DPC either. DPC is a side thing for me. Almost all my submissions are images that were taken for my pleasure, period. Some fit the challenge description and so I enter them. My very first challenge image wasn't taken for DPC. I was already shooting forks and other utensils and I saw the challenge (Silverware) so I decided to enter one of my shots and I won a blue, lol. Now that I think of it, I did buy something. A can of Sapporo beer, which gave me my second blue ribbon. :)

For my first challenge I had to buy a woody but I can't really count that since it was a woody challenge :)
Every once in a while I'll buy props etc for a challenge. For the sphere challenge:
Cheapo wine glass, 2 containers of hand cleanser, and a cheap rubber ball that has a dolphin in it. Total cost at the dollar store was less than $10. (Including an
extra bottle of hand sanitizer because I thought I didn't have enough). I should have bought another white poster board. =(
I still like my advanced editing version more but really if I had forked out the dough for a new poster board and shot at a wider aperture I probably would have had similar results.

Well, considering I haven't entered a challenge in over a year... I certainly haven't spent much lately ;)
There was a time when I spent a lot (probably far too much), but most of it was the expense of getting to places.
I'd hate to total up the cost of this one: (details are in the image comments).
There's been the odd clock or hammer, but these were the only ones that I had to go out and buy everything to construct:
& & (mind you we WERE able to return the mouse to the pet store, but I wouldn't let them give my money back). I considered it a "rental" :)
ps. when the heck did Leroy get back ?!?!?!? (yes, I've been hiding under a rock) |
