Im now bitten up, cut up, chewed up, sweaty stinky, and my shots ALL SUCK!! grrr!!!

It was 105 degrees here today. I found some cows, but did you realize that cows don't ever lift their heads when they're grazing?! I sat out there for about an hour, and they had their heads down 99.97% of the time! Which is fine for some shots, but after about 10-15 minutes, I had done everything that I could think of with heads down.

Somehow it's not nearly as exciting as sitting and trying an eagle or great blue heron shot.

My husband was throwing apples at them LOL thats how I got them to move (the owner said as long as you dont HIT them it was good to go lmao)

You may want to look at it from the cow's point of view...

It sometimes works, unfortunately, I shot this a few weeks ago.

The best is when the herd is mildly curious about you and they wander close to check you out for a few minutes. Other times they ignore you and sometimes I'll even encounter a herd that runs off as soon as you get within range of a zoom lens.

Don't go to the bathroom on it. (my husband was growing up, his mom had horses, and the kids would do that)

I hope that I'm a little smarter than that! (although sometimes I wonder!) Just a small shock on the arm tonight. Felt pretty stupid, but at least no one else was around to see (except the cows).

I remember, when I was about six years old, my Grandad put up an electric fence on the farm we lived on. I can still see his face when he told me, (remember this is a six-year-old boy he was talking to) "Whatever you do, never pee on this fence!"

...and now you know the rest of the story.

Less than 11 hours to go and only 75 entries? Come on people, get a MOOOOOOve on! Where's all the rural dwellers that complain about big city friendly challenges?

Love it! Definitely a contender for the scores thread... "get a moooove on your bovine scores" or something.

I didn't enter this one cause I thought it'd be hard to get something I'd like to enter. And I had other obligations during the weekend. And was feeling lazy. But I'd prefer to enter something I like myself rather than entering something for the sake of entering it.
Looks like I'll have no entries this week.

Jeez....that voltage is pretty damn low for cow electric fencing. Sounds like it was more suitable for horses which have much thinner hides than cows (hence the invention of barbed-wire and why it's fine to use for fencing in cows, but a good way to do serious harm to a horse).

Cow-strength electric fencing should be able to bring a cow to its knees. You're lucky!!!

Agreed which is why I finally started doing that. Oh yeah and going a bit simplier with the entries and making sure the focus comp and lighting are spot on more so then trying to do something different and not having the technicals anywhere near right... *shakes head* I know I am better then that nonsense so I am going to take a more professional approach to my entries.

That IS an amazing cowshot, absolutely, but more in the burlesque annex than in the fine-arts wing :-)

Hey Yo - If you can't come up with a beefy picture then the rest of us have got no chance. I couldn't even find a real cow around here. Now sea - we got lots of that.

Very lucky if it happens to be 3 phase electrical fencing.

I found this rather cute little ditty by someone called Sammerdog on the internet... kinda cute.

When little Uncle Buck was young and dense,
He took a whiz on an electric fence.
It curled his hair and tickled his balls,
And made him shit his over-alls.
