Looks like I'm going to have to bow out. There are time constraints plus there may be a trip in hubby's horizon at the same time and he wants us to go. It's rare that all of us get to go somewhere together and so I can't pass it up. I was so looking forward to seeing you guys. :(

Oh Judy, I'm so disappointed, I was so looking forward to meeting you. Have a great trip with your family though :)

I just wanted to let everyone know that there was a bombing attempt in Time Square yesterday. They managed to defuse it but still...

I actually wanted to go to NYC next week

You know, we have members all over the world, and not just a few of them live with the threat of bombings every day. They go about their lives anyway - what's the alternative? Hide? Don't go anywhere? Sure, you take what steps you can - don't hang out in bad neighborhoods, avoid people wearing heavily wired vests and a crazed look in their eye, but don't put your life on hold waiting for the threat to go away.

Only one person here could say that! Well done Deb. I am waiting to see the photos from this GTG and will echo Deb's words. Do you go about your normal lives and do what you want, or do you hide away from an isolated threat?? Okay, I know I wear a heavily wired vest(it gets cold here) and have a crazy look in my eyes(it's the glasses I tell you)...but I am over the other side of the pond. Get out there and show us the results!!

Judy, I'm disappointed, too. :-/

FYI, all, I was "there" yesterday:

You rock Melethia... It couldn't have been spoken more eloquently or succinctly by anyone else in this community. Thank you. I can't wait to meet you in NYC! :-)

My wife and I were at NYC in February and went for a walk in Times Square one evening. For some reason the NYC Police had deployed a SWAT team in the same area as shown in this picture. We wondered what might be happening but just continued on as if nothing was. We have walked NYC at night and rode the subway several times and I don't think at any time we felt scared or afraid to do so. I even went alone to meet a friend in the Union Square area at night. The city has made a lot of improvements to make it more friendly and visitors should go there with an open mind. We love NYC and would love to go back any day of the week...

I may be wrong, but wasn't this a case where a suspicious package was found on the back seat of a car that was on fire... there was no bomb.

Bad people can be anywhere. I work in NYC. I wasn't there this weekend but I might be when the next attack is averted. Really, what's the point in worrying about it. Enjoy life, keep your eyes open, and hope for the best!

Yeah...got it last week when planning my Street Workshop route.

My flickr account...

I seem to shoot that underpass quite a bit but post/rain with a huge puddle worked out best.

finally bought my ticket... arriving to NYC on Wednesday night and leaving Sunday afternoon. I have some business to attend to on Thursday and Friday, but starting Friday night till midday Sunday I plan to join the circus :). Where are people meeting Friday night and Saturday morning?
05/05/2010 11:32:03 PM · #318
Great, Lev! I have no idea where people are gathering; I think Saturday is the "date proper" but there will be lots of people in town early, too. If no one else posts a general Friday and/or Friday night gathering spot for orphans and stragglers, I'll try to think of something in the next week or two. Steve may have some good ideas already.

Friday, June 4th at 4:00PM - Central Park.

We'll start at Columbus Circle and make our way to The Boathouse on the way...Sheeps Meadow, The Mall, The Bandshell, Bethesda Fountain, The Bow Bridge, The Lake, Strawberry Fields etc. Then we'll head West past The Dakota (John Lennons apt. building) and to Broadway for some evening and night shooting, heading downtown to Hell's Kitchen passing Lincoln Center and The Empire Hotel. That should fill you memory cards with plenty of guaranteed winners.

Sounds like a great start to the weekend. See you there.

OK Gang...it's getting close! PLEASE PM me or post here if you are attending.

I'm hoping to get an agenda together, locations, times, contact numbers (all exchanged privately)...perhaps a print-out of the attendees with their profile pic etc.

Let me know!

If I take the bolt bus in it will leave me off at 34th & 8th. How close is that to where the meet up place is?
05/17/2010 01:52:24 PM · #324
So who wants to meet me at B&H fairly early in the morning? I'll be getting into NYC at 8:30am a block away from the store.

I'm still interested, but I haven't made plans yet.

I could just come in for the day, but I wouldn't be able to get there before 10am or so taking the Megabus, and I'd have to leave around 6.

I looked at the hotel and it's quite pricey! I didn't look how much the room went up for two (or three), but anyone interested in sharing a room Friday night (or alternatively Saturday, but I only want to stay one night). PM me!
