All three airports have transportation into the city. All of them of course by cab, but from Newark I know you can either hop a bus into Port Authority (42nd St and 8th Ave) or you can take the little tram that goes around the airport to an NJ Transit train station which will connect with frequent trains into Penn Station (34th St and 7th Ave).

This bus is excellent, cheap and fast to get in from Newark airport to Manhattan.

If you're really feeling homesick and the immediate need to brawl, I can take you down to a place called Hogs and Heifers Saloon. We can have a quick beer, a fight and they have a pool table.

hahahaha I already have the right hair cut, just need to remember to pack the black T shirt and a couple of fake tattoos! : )

To my Canuck friends traveling to the NYC GTG a quick reminder:

Make certain your passport is still valid

Try, if possible, to have a Canada Customs Y-38 form for your equipment, it really cuts down on the hassles, particularly if your equipment is new.

See you all there,

Ray

Just in case there isn't enough to see and photograph in NYC during our GTG..... This one, at least, will be on my list of things to do.

I have plane tickets! Woo hoo! Arriving 3 Jun at 9 PM at JFK. I'll work out how to get to my hotel later. I'm up for the museum!

Also keep in mind that the Guggenhim has an exhibit now through September called "Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance" that draws from recent acquisitions to look at "photography as a documentary medium."

Deb, I'm so glad you are coming!

is anyone from the philly area and west towards lancaster interested in taking the bolt or other means of transportation for day? it's $10-13 I think. It looks like the schedule isn't up for June yet. I'm not totally sure how I would manage getting to the bus stop, but thought I would see if anyone was interested in sharing parking or a ride.

JPG Magazines, Photo Challenge: Inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson

My image is doing pretty well but I don't really need to win a trip to NYC...and honestly what I need is a trip far away from NYC, lololololo BUT I'd take the free pass to the show, good enough. I might check it out in a week or two. The Robert Frank "Americans " exhibit was truly inspirational and I'm sure this will be the same.

I'm planning on meeting up with Jeb in Philly & catching a train in to NYC. I'm not sure about a schedule yet either, but I'm only going for the day & it would be nice to be able to travel back with someone as he's staying. I live in Jersey but figured I'd either take Patco or the NJ transit train over to Philly. He's coming into Philly from the Lancaster area I believe.

Kelli and Jeb, Check out www.boltbus.com . It is pretty cheap and has more arrival and departure times. I've never been on one before so I have no idea what it's like. Right now, I'm still not sure if I am going...it would be really easy to take amtrak, but it is more than I can spend and it would mean a shorter day in NYC. The bolt bus option is cheaper, but it means driving into philly and finding parking if I want to spend more time in NYC. ugh, decisions. please keep me posted as to what trains you are taking and i will let you know if i decide to go and how I'm going. Thanks!

Wow, thanks for this. This might be the way to go. It actually leaves from Cherry Hill (Mall) too. Which is much nicer for me. No parking to worry about. And there are round trip options from 7am till 10pm. I couldn't seem to get anything to come up past April, but I think Monday I'll give them a call and see what's up.

It's definitely not looking good for me to be able to make this ;-( We are still in NC, and it's looking like we'll either be here or Austin, TX. I will stay a "maybe" for now.

I've been on a Bolt Bus before. It's not bad, and worth the $$. Keep in mind the luggage restriction - 1 piece under 1 piece on the bus. It's a standard coach bus, usually they are pretty new, and there's a power plug at each seat. They pick up and drop off on the street usually a block or two from actual train or bus stations. Make sure you get there at least 15 minutes early, especially in NYC, because they do give away seats to standby passengers looking to go earlier or later. Hope this helps!

I may be making a surprise guest appearance in the late afternoon on Sat if I can find where the group is at that point. I also have Sun and Mon free for anyone that would like to shoot some street with me. It's been a while since I've done any street photography in the city and I would like the chance to meet some of my online friends in person (or see them again). We will be in touch. You know who you are...

Way to go on arranging this Steve. Glad you chose to keep the models and studio stuff out of it. In New York we shoot raw street!
