Agreed.
I was interested when I first heard some of the hype on this, but the no multitasking makes this nearly worthless to me. And tablet laptops have been around for years and years, so I don't really understand why everybody is blowing up about this feature. Personally, I would rather use a stylus than my finger, as well.
Using it as a portfolio is an excellent idea, but I think there are plenty of other routes to that end that probably will cost half as much, especially if that's the primary function I can use it for.
I'm curious to see what competitors will put out in the next 2-5 months in response, however. |

Im on the fence if I want one, if I could load photoshop on it and plug a card reader or any of my cameras in to it I'd pre-order one right now :)
Otherwise Im completely happy with my ipod touch

Here is what I think,
I hate Mac products and I don't like Steve Jobs. I have never even touch a mac computer in my life or mac products and I probably never will. They all are expensive, over rated toys... Tablet PCs are exist long time with all the options, and this will doom in short time. It's not practical, it will never be practical. Easy to drop and break and they are not cheap.
Long live to PC,
ipads for icult... |

Hard to say you hate something if you've never touched one isn't it? I was a die hard PC guy for a long time. I use PC's at work all day long. Now that I have three macs at home, I will never own a PC again. The mac can do everything a PC can do, only better, and certainly better looking. Granted, doing it better and looking good comes at a price. I'm with you on that point. |

Most of my dislike start with Steve's attitude for his employees when he had his King days. He was a visionary but crazy dude... still is in my mind. He also super priced his gadgets for long time and still does. Last, he and his cult always put PC down, attacked for a long time... and still do.
So, I didn't have to touch one to hate them. |

This sounds like a direct quote from the iPod naysayers, and we all know THAT fad was short lived... |

I will not be getting an iPad. At least not right away. Look what they did with the iPhone, they kept releasing newer versions of it, dropping prices, and repeated the process. I predict a similar future for the iPad, ESPECIALLY since it uses the iPod OS. I may consider getting one after a few generations when they've plateaued a bit on the major version updates.
I am a PC person, I love my PC and I have always been partial to it. I respect the Mac and what it it capable of (I often use them in school). However, my major problem with Macs has almost nothing to do with the interface, design, OS, or anything of that sort. It's the branding. MP3 players were out many years before the first iPod was released, yet Apple was incredibly ingenious in its marketing campaign. They continued their genius campaign with the MacBooks, targeting the art and pseudo-intellectual world. They found their niche. Haven't any of you seen the documentaries? People like their PC's, but people LOVE their Macs. It's a brand they love, and a brand they trust. For some people, it can be as far as blind faith. I'm not against MacBooks (I intend to own one as soon as I can afford it), iPods, iPhones, or anything of that sort. They are good products. I am merely opposed to the Apple brand. They've stamped their logo into the creativity sector of our society, and we keep asking for more. |

The expectations were set so high, how could everyone not be disappointed at some level. This thing was sooooo over hyped. |
I was following the event live.
Out comes Steve and he basically tells us that netbooks are underperfoming slow crapbooks.
So this set the expectation for the ipad. It looks like Steve thinks his products will kick the netbook solidly off the market.
He presents his ipad. But, as slick as it performs, it is basically performing better than an e-reader but is still way under the performance of a quality netbook.
- no USB
- small storage
- no multitask
- no cardreader
- no camera
I want a device like this, with which I can sit at the aeroport reading a book, running skype in the background while listening to my favourite songs. Showing my face if I talk with someone. Typing a mail with internet television running next to it. Let some website with a message system waiting for messages in the background while I do something else on it.
But I think a 1 Ghz processor and the Iphone OS just cannot deal with that.

I agree, first thought when I saw it (actually second, first thought was oooooooooooooo pretty!) was if you can put photoshop on it and use it to edit photos & draw it would be awesome & worth every penny. Although Im sure it will be lots & lots of pennies over here |

Too many 'wrongs' for this one to go 'right' out and buy it.
No multi-tasking? HAH.
An iPhone OS? meh.
No flash. Pass.
It's just a glorified gadget that, because it's Apple, will have people going ga-ga over nothing.

Looks shiny! Doesn't do anything my iphone doesn't already ... in that pocket iphone format I absolutely love it and think it is awesome ... in a laptop / net book sized gadget I wanna run more than email/music/browser!! I've got an fairly ancient sony netbook (~4 years old) that was around way before that term even existed! It's 900g, runs windows and therefore any app I want including cs3, is 1024 * 768 etc etc so I have no incentive to buy an ipad at all, it's too big for a portable gadget and too limited for a netbook. |

You're all missing the point.
The point is not the technology. The point is that you can sit on the floor of your studio apartment drinking coffee, wearing your black turtle neck, and reading the NY Times on it. |

I want to sit on the floor of my apartment drinking coffee. And read the NY times and listen to my mp3's and answer a Skype call when it comes in. (My wife likes to sleep a lot longer than me, so actually I do not want to make a lot of noise with my normal stereo).
For this to happen with an I-pad I also need to have my normal pc running. Or use my ipod and have Skype transfer my calls to my cellphone. You see how they missed the boat there?
No multitasking is a thing I havent seen since we said goodbye to our Morrow computer running Pearl OS from big floppies.

Is it ever really about NEED though, I think it falls firmly into the WANT category! |
Exactly. Agree with the above poster stating the device fits more into the 'WANT' category rather than 'NEED'.
My 2005 Powerbook G4 suits my photography (and other) needs better.

A 500 dollar image viewer?
My biggest problem with this gadget is no multi tasking. What did Jobs have in mind with leaving this out? A 250 dollar netbook can.
I didn't read the thread so please excuse me if I'm repeating what has already been said.
I prefer itab over ipad. I'm sure there's a plethora of Kotex ipad jokes around the net this morning. I think Apple stock will dip because of the lack of sales from this product. Ten hour battery life, this I want proof of. How hot will it get while I'm reading a book? Will my eyes burn out after a couple hours?
No multi tasking.
Oh and no multi tasking.
I just can't believe it, sorry. Hope the 2nd gen will. After so many complaints about it they didn't do anything about it on this product. Fools! |

A $500 digital photo frame with an LCD that puts others to shame and allows me to go online or show video. As a presentation tool, the iPad has no peerĂ¢€” you can put it in the client's hands for the intimacy of a matted 8x10 without the awkward keyboard, etc. of a laptop.

I like my laptop, too, but it can't go online without WiFi at $15/mo, and I don't like to edit on it anyway. |
