I have not rated 3 images because I know the photographers who they belong to.
From my side, thanks to everyone taking the time to vote 100% and those voting & commenting 100% |

But this is exercise for your brain, much better than sudoku:-):-)
I believe Janine said it best, enjoy the journey that these pictures provide (in some ways it is like world travel but without leaving your seat:-) ) and do what you can. |

Yeah.....but I'm copping out, starting with the images I rated highest, and I'm running out of different superlatives! LOL!!!
I always try to make sure that I comment constructively on the images I rate lowest, but with the giant field, I want to do easy comments for a while to get a few done before I have to really work to do comments.

Here's an option for you, Jeb. Use the feature that lets you sort by score on the first page of the challenge. Pick those you scored a 5. Comment on 10-20 of them. Do the same thing for the 4s and 6s. It will spread a few more comments around, and I'm sure most of those folks would be delighted to get a comment from you. |

I don't know......the first 45 images I did were the higghest scoring ones, the next 22 were the lowest, next I'm doing ones in the middle, then I'll be doing another batch from somewhere else in the bunch. I left the scores I gave after the comment given so that you know what I gave, and if you want to bitch me out, please do it in a PM rather than in the thread, okay? I have no qualms about further expanding on my comment or why I scored the way I did, BUT.......I also won't change my score once I've commented and attached the score after the comment.
I'm doing the best I can to be honest and constructive, my apologies if my comment or score didn't suit you.

Looking at the comments on my own entry, I tend to agree. On the flip side, I've been leaving some pretty nitpicky comments myself. |

I was being a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but yah, it always happens when people try too hard to make a deadline, or set an unreasonable task for themselves. heh. I wish people would concentrate more on putting out a decent number of better comments, than putting out a larger number of watered down comments.
However, C'est la vie.
I DO appreciate the fact that more people are trying, period. I really do. |

Knowing my lack of time, and that I cannot leave a 5 word comment on an image, I gave up any chance of giving 100% comments before the challenge even begun.........50 or 100 more detailed comments is better than 400+ 5 word comments anyday.
Having said that, I am being quite picky, and was also the same when I voted too. This is the 'Best of 2009' where people are meant to submit their best image. Hence, I would expect them to have spend time to look into the details in their image, their processing and choices. With 12 months of images to chose from, there are a lot of possibilities.
If anyone has questions regarding a comment I made from them, I am happy to receive a PM regarding it, preferably after the voting closes, and provided the OM is written in a nice and non-abusive way, I will respond to it with further details. |

It doesn't matter if it's a "Best of" or not, when a person starts looking for reasons to NOT like a photograph, there's a problem, IMO.
ETA: Please don't confuse this with simply not liking a photo. If you don't like it, you don't like it. However, I have a major problem with people that go around nit-picking the tiniest things as if it's some kind of all-encompassing photographic rule or standard that completely destroys an image. It's especially frustrating when you know the only reason that it's even being mentioned is so that it 'fills out' someone's comment to make it look a little more involved.
However, I'll live with such things, I just wanted to make people think a little bit more about what they're saying and why they're saying it. I want less "What I would like to see with this image" and more "I wonder why you chose to do with this image what you did".
Get it?

That's a fairly narrow distinction, and truth be told, once it gets to that point, my inclination is to not make any further comments.
If I spend more time trying to make sure that my comment could not possibly be taken in a negative connotation, I'll not get very far at all, not to mention be fairly unlikely to be able to convey the impression that the image left me with in the first place.
When the style, or wording of commentary starts getting criticized, it kind of makes me surprised that anyone would even want to try and comment.
I don't feel that I'm particularly qualified to leave anything in a comment except what it is about the image that appeals to me, doesn't appeal to me, or how it makes me feel. If I think I have to be super-careful how I word my impressions, it just makes more senmse not to comment at all and that way I know that I won't offend anyone.
