No more. You might have to do a refresh to clear the cache, but the files should be blocked by an overlay now. Thumbnails, images in Workshop folders, your own photos and those larger than 800px (user controlled) don't have the overlay. The rest will get you a blank GIF. |

Yep, now it works in all browsers. But it changes nothing for theft. It is only slightly harder to automatically harvest the site.

So much for that. Despite their claim that it "disables text selection" and "disables clipboard and print screen", I was able to use CTRL-A in their encrypted demo page to select the entire page, CTRL-C to copy everything, and paste the entire page of text into Notepad. Their "Image Guardian" will be just as susceptible, and useless against Windows' Snipping Tool. |

Congrats guys on wiping out user functionality with the transparent gif thing.... Talk about an own goal. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the results and the pretense that's it's going to save your precious photos from been stolen... shaking my head in amazement.... |

I wish this came up before I voted "yes" to the poll to extend to 800x800. If images are indeed watermarked I sure hope it's up the user to decide whether they want the watermark on their images. I personally don't want to view watermarked images and will likely skip over them. |

I can still right-click save and drag-and-drop using google chrome no problem. |
Not any more! ;-P |
Yep, can't get any now. Is there a way to turn this off for a particular photo? Many users put a photo out there to get editing tips and this will kill it for them. |

Try shift & refresh.
Edit: I was able to capture it also, tried it originally in Firefox.

I cleared out my cache, browsing history, didnt log in and still stole it, then logged in and stole it again. SO far I have stolen Jac's shot about 5 times
(sorry Jac)
Just a thought, but what would happen to the Texture Library if you do this layer thing |

It seems to be disabled right now, it's likely being worked on. I use Chrome as well, and it was working yesterday. Let him finish. ;-) |

.
I just cleared cache, rebooted, force the page refresh on the Sapporro blue ribbon and I was able to right-click, copy, paste the full sized DPC image that was uploaded by the photographer.

I am so impatient!!!
I actually like the idea of an overlay versus a watermark |

In the interest of full disclosure (and of beating this thing to death), you should know that it is possible to link directly to the image from DPC's image server. The URL is in the tag in the page source. Here. |

Based on this comment I would think if you wanted someone to have your image for "playing" with then if you upload an image larger 800 px then it should be downloadable using the view larger option. So I suppose with the texture library as long as they are bigger than 800 px they should be ok? At least, this is what I am getting from the above comment. |

Yep, or put it in your Workshop folder and link from there. Jac's blue ribbon shot is in his Workshop, which is why you can still get to it. |

I hate that people keep pointing out 5000 other ways that I can steal your photo.
We get it, there is more than one way to do it, and if someone is resolute enough, they will get it if they want it. But most of the measures that are being implemented/discussed are deterrents. They might just be enough to prevent someone from "casually" lifting your image. No matter what, if its online, there is a risk of someone using it for thier own purposes, but bottom line is that a simple measure may be enough of a deterrent. |

Nice to see this is finally being addressed in one form or another. On the other hand, there is no question it is a shame measures like this need to be employed but that seems to be the world we live in. If anything, watermarking the image on the main site may act as an encouragement to display your images on DPC Prints.
I look forward to seeing the final result.
Oh, and thanks for trying. Much appreciated! |

From what I have read it sounds like this is something that will be optional so people that do not want them on their images would not have to watermark but those who do can, so why would anyone be against someone else having watermarks on their own images?

Feasibly it could cut back on the enjoyment of viewing images, but I guess that's up to the photographer. As someone said above, I might be "less likely" to click on a watermarked image's thumbnail to view the full-sized one -- or certainly to add it to my favorites (probably not a big concern for most).
I wonder if watermarks could be added on an image by image basis, so DPC'ers wouldn't have to choose all or nothing. |

I'm curious to know if the current survey finishes with a majority supporting some sort of watermarking, will ericwoo loudly support it as the will of the people? |

You can be terribly facetious sometimes, you know? lol.
You know darned well that people only tout 'the will of the people' when that will ends up suiting their own ends. |

I still say the poll is worded disingenuously and is misleading.
I still say that if you have ANY misgivings about any kind of 'watermark' (which is a universally accepted term meaning a visible form of marking on a photo that tends to ruin the visual integrity of said photo), you need to vote no on THIS poll. I don't care if discussions about what KINDs of watermarks will happen later... this isn't made clear in the poll.
However, thy wills be done. lol.
Vote no! |

If this site adds watermarks, i'm quitting.
(This should get the tide turning towards adding watermarks!!!) |
