Due to my work schedule, my goals took a turn for the worse around March...

However, I now have more time so we'll see what happens to my photography. It sounds so simple -- go out, take picture, submit. But somehow I always get hung up along the way!

Well, I can relax a little now as I've just struck off my last goal (ok, a couple are for year end but think I've cracked them). Maybe I'll try and stretch myself a little more next year ;)

To do in 2008...
Have three 2008 submissions in my top 10 ~ Light Lunch ~ Bubo scandiacus ~ Ta daaaa! ~ Strix Nebulosa
Eye Spy Lunch ~ Amorphous ~ they call me King ~ A light draft ~ Green Shot ~ Sage
Give more votes than received (3k to make up) 20th Feb
End the year with a 5.75 average ~ started 5.6732 19/04/2008
End the year with a 5.7732 ~ a full tenth increase 17/07/2008
End the year with a 5.8000 ~ a full 0.1268 increase feeling confident!
Use all of my lenses in a submission (or sell it) 10/09/2008
Reach 75 challenges ~ was 51 in 47 months 11/08/2008
Monitor my 2008 scores and average 6+ (currently 28 challenges and 6.1965)

Goals for 2008 on DPC:
1. Get another ribbon - Rural Landscape IV
2. Move average score received to over 6.0 (Currently up to 5.9549 on 9/08/08))
3. Have 50 more photos selected as favorites (68 at start of 2008) Done as of 10 July 2008
4. Have 20 more people select me as a favorite photographer - Done in July - make it 10 more!
5. Score 10 images in a row about 6
6. Score a top 10 with a portrait image - Street Smarts
7. Move total comments given to 8000 (from 5000)
8 Score a 7.0 on a challenge 2 Person Portrait
8a. Store another 7 on a challenge - Rural Landscape IV
9. Push myself to find my photographic vision
10. See the light (Aren't we all looking for this?)

I am still working on my style and vision and 'seeing the good light' but I actually think that is really a long term goal. I think I can do #3, may do #5 (I did it last year), and will do #7.

My goal for 2008: Drop in on DPC occasionally.

So far I've done well. I'm headed for my target.

I finally got a 6 -- 6.0000 to be exact -- in August's Free Study. That was my specific goal, though I have some nebulous ones, too.
09/10/2008 03:32:11 PM · #37
I set a goal of hitting avg of 6.000+, but right now I'm at 5.9140. With 124 challenges to raise it ain't gonna happen. I really slacked off the last few months on entering and plan on doing more over the next few months.

Edit: congrats Larry! You're a much better photographer than your scores indicate. You have an eye for seeing things that I wish I had.

I have two goals and I've met one. I wanted to ribbon in a challenge (which I FINALLY did!!) and I want to score a 7+, which I still haven't managed to do. I've had a couple that have gotten SO ridiculously close, but I never quite make it. I'm still working on it, I'll get there eventually!

When it is in my hands, I will jump up and down, but yes, I am very excited.

Thanks!
But you know they are some great side challenges out now. I really like the Better than Average tourney. I just wish I didn't have to miss a week.
The DPC Olympics is another great side challenge. I would have participated in that but didn't want to hurt a team by possibly missing some weeks because of what all is going on right now. But I can't wait till the next season on both of the challenges. I'll be back!

lol Scott and yes, they are both great side challenges (hence the carefully added 'arguably'). Sadly I lucked out in week 5 of the Beat your average but managed to enter each weak of the Olympics II with a 6+ average - both great challenges.

My Goals are going good as I have none. I find I do better if I don't set myself up to fail.
