ooh ooh, can I say 'WHOOT!'

Thanks to all the voters making this my 5th highest scoring image (well for 2 days lol). I spent 4 hours at the zoo and 3 of them where spent with another animal that didn't 'perform' for me so will try again. This shot stood out to me because of the angle of his neck as he glared at the noisy parrot.

I know selective desat isn't for everyone but felt this looked better as (we all know) Strix Nebulosa has the common name of Great Grey and thought more of you may have thought I just desaturated his face?

You know, the more I look at it the more I tend to agree with K10DGuy and surfdabbler so wonder if it might have scored a little better if the eyes where toned down a little?

2008 has been a good year for me in more ways than one so thank-you all again :)

Yes, I'm not keen on the yellow either, but I still voted this one of the top of the challenge. Well done! You could play snap with Alain on this one. :)

Congrats! I was confused as to which owl shot was yours so I didn't make an official guess. :P

People love owls. I have to say though, I still hate that yellow. Hate it.

Congrats though :)

Not a big fan of the uber-contrasty selective desat here. The yellow looks incredibly unrealistic.

Nice one Andi. Was this at Banham? Well done for not oversharpening the plumage. I'm in two minds whether I prefer this to the full colour version though.

I haven't given you a score as I know it's you but if I did it'd be at least a 7 or an 8 :-)

Excellent detail and the desat works pretty well here.

Given the abundance of owls in this challenge the processing of this one has made it stand out, the selective desaturation has been done well and doesn't feel like it is a gimic

Just gorgeous, would love to see the full colour version too.

Very clear, great composition. I don't like the selective desaturation, though. Giving this an 8, if it were all in colour I think it would be a 10.

i understand the reason for wanting to emphasize the yellows, but i am not a fan of selective desat in this case - i want to see this awesome shot in full color

What were you thinking?! Surely you could have cropped this better or turned it green or something?! ;o) You know I love this shot, it works so well with the selective desat thing ;o) And I just realised...this fellas 'eyebrows' remind me of a guy I know ;o) Added as a fav and voted you a 1 :-P

Just kidding, no vote from me ;o)
