Day 1

Nettle-eye View

My P&S is a Canon IXUS-860 (or Powershot SD870 IS in the US!!) I bought it as a backup for the SLR and when I don't want the bulk of carrying the SLR!

What I'd like to achieve from this side challenge are photos from an angle/position that would be much harder to achieve with the SLR :)

I decided keep it simple!!! Really though, trying the macro focus, black and white conversion (it is very yellow because of the lighting in my building).

btw--the camera I'm using is a Nikon coolpix s200--its not listed as a camera choice for a preference.

This was taken with my Olympus C760-UZ. It was quite lovely straight from the camera, but I did a bit of post processing anyway.

My camera is a Lumix TZ3. I used the "night shot" setting, no flash, hand-held, anti-shake on 2. In PP I straightened, NR, tone-mapped. Shot from the parking lot at work last night. [eta] My plan is to use every programmed setting on this camera at least once.

that's a good idea actually. i don't think i've ever used any of the pre-programmed settings on any of my cameras. will be a good opportunity to try them out.

I've mis-used the settings, occasionally. That's kinda fun.

I'm using Pentax W10. Took a lot of photos today, but it was almost midnight when I got home, so no time for downloading and postprocessing. I'll have to put up day 1 tomorrow.

I've hardly used a P&S since I got my 400D - I'd forgotten quite how slow this camera is. But it's size certainly has advantages - like being able to shoot at a red light. I can't do that with the SLR because I can't keep it on me and if I leave it on the seat someone will try to steal it.

Day 1

Not sure I will be able to do a photo a day (end of semester and lots of work to do before it ends) but I will try. Got my P&S to use while fishing in my kayak and mountain bike riding so I went with the Olympus because it is water and shock proof. Until now have only really used it for snap shots but have been wanting to explore the capabilities of the camera and this challenge is just perfect for that. Looking forward to doing more in the next 14 days with the point and shoot. Have a few photo shoots in mind and going to take along the P&S, along with the DSLR, and see what I can come up with.

Hope you enjoy,
Ronnie

Boston Marathon Elite Men Runners

It was a beautiful and cool day for running the 112th Boston Marathon. Robert Cheruiyot from Kenya was the eventual Men's winner and Dire Tune from Ethopia was the winner for the Women.

My wife ran a great race herself, completing the race and qualifying to run it again next year. I will post more shots of the marathon later - but most of those were with my D300

Here's day 1 for me. (It is still day one where I am!)
I posted 2 different kinds of action shots. I don't know if either one of them are any good, I'm still trying to figure out if there's anything wrong with my camera.

Starting with a nighttime semi macro shot.

Here's a snapshot of a few melons taken while I was at work today, it's just show and tell, and not here for comments.

Well here is the first. Another dog (?!). Already confused about what I am trying to accomplish here: took tons of shots with the little Nikon, and all I could think was it would have been better with the Panny, so my next thought is to use the Panny to do what it can't do very well to convince myself its time to upgrade. Not sure that's the spirit of this challenge, but that is what is on my mind.

Day 2:

Shot with Panasonic FZ30. Gives great detail and sharpness, but much too noisy, even in decent light.

A small (4 in diameter) tulip angled to get the light from a nearby window (but the wall behind it did not). I used the Food setting, with the AF set for the center. You can do more with a P&S camera than just point and shoot it.
