Desert Rose at night.
This one is pretty much as it was shot. I used the night and flash to eliminate the BG. I focused using a nearby street light, and shot manual settings using flash.
Stats: Manual 1/60 f7.1 part cloudy WB, iso 200, Macro
PP: Crop, Highlights, lighten a touch.

I've tried several times to write a comment for you that might make sense & not sound too crazy. I would never think of using flash & shooting at night to get a black BG. I feel like I might have a chance to learn something here, just not sure what it is! I kind of like the glowing edges.

Great job with the settings! You managed to get, great color, exposure and detail!

i like your confession in the post - 'a nightmare' - very funny stuff- if you really want to see nightmare, you should see how bad the 'macros' are with my silly P&S

the colors are nice and vibrant - maybe almost a bit too much - and the details on the pistil and anthers is actually pretty good!

Great detail. I don't know how you managed that under the circumstances you described above. The color is great too. I have a little problem with the crop. I'd like to see more of the primary blossom, but I wouldn't want to lose those beautiful buds in the upper left. I don't know if you shot it this way, or cropped it later. If you cropped it from a larger image, you might try a square aspect ratio. Sometimes rotating the cropping box will allow you to get everything you want in the image.

good colors, but i agree that the framing is a bit off.
also, depending on the light, a suppressed flash might have done better.

Great colorful shot. Would have liked to see more of the floor (bottom cut off) and less of the stem.

Thats great, I always hate using the flash on the p&s or the SLR as I never seem to get it right! My only slight issue is I am drawn to the stem slightly more than the center of the flower

You did well with the lighting, and I like the way the colour leaps off the edges of the upper slightly OOF petals.

I love the colour, and the fact that your highlights haven't blown.
