I sent the wife on a mission to do the same (the dealer's right around the corner from her work) ... let's see how many she can score off them :)

I'd pay you to ship a set to CA. Still waiting on mine from last month. :(
I'm going to try the Rosco dealer next, unfortunately they aren't right around the corner. |

**Mostly kidding. :)
But, the closest Rosco dealer to me is in San Jose, over an hour away. I'd rather not drive. Maybe they'll ship me one if I ask nicely... |

They certainly will especially if you 'lead them on' to believe that you are starting a huge job, have a large expendable budget, and need to figure out what colors, corrections, and diffusion you want to purchase.
And, a bit of advice.
Don't settle for the swatch, unless that's what you want.
Ask for the Rosco Light Lab Gel Book.

If you wish to get a swatch booklet from them, fill out their catalog request clicking on their GamColor, GamChroics, GamFusion, and/or Window Grip.
And for those of you that are paying for a swatch book. Save your money.
Swatch books are normally free.
Call the manufacture, or distributer direct, and tell them your a photographer and wish to get a swatch booklet for their gel colors, party colors, color correction, and diffusion.
Just a thought. |
Tried this one and GAM just sent me a booklet of their products, must try and get the right checkbox next time, or just call them.
ETA:I have received my Lee Swatchbook. :)

There are two types of 'customers'.
The first is the one that just checks the appropriate box on the internet.
The other is the professional that is looking to purchase gel's for his up coming project.
Tell me, which do you think The gel companies are going to cater too?
Drop a dime, give a call.

very true.
You guys should find some free black wrap for your next freebie project. I had a friend who owed me a favor, pick me up a roll from her production company. Its basically black aluminum foil, but controls light spill really well and can be reshaped and reused many times. its good stuff, I would use it in theaters for the par cans that were spilling lights onto the background. |

got the Lee sample pack the other day, and have a question:
How is everyone USING them? You know - how do you physically use them tearing them completely apart? I like that they are individually marked with a piece of paper, giving details about each one. These papers are really handy & I'd like to know which one I've used... AFTER testing, etc.
I've thought of different ideas, like using a Sharpie to mark them, making some sort of new wire / string holder (keep them together like the little pink plastic thing they came on), or just rip 'em all apart & hope for the best? Share your ideas!!! :D

pulled it apart, laminated the more obviously useful ones and attached velcro to the ends.
Kept the rest on very loosely closed zip-ties, so that I can use them but keep them in order. About 1/3rd of them to a ziptie. |

haven't tried it yet, but a handy idea might be to use the sleeves that you store negatives in. cut the sleeves into strips of one row, and i think you could keep the gel and the ID tag in the same sleeve. then just tape the sleeve to the flash.
so you could snip the gels you want to use behind the pink hinge, and keep the ones you haven't used on the original unit.

I ordered the Lee gels a few weeks ago when I saw this thread. I just got the sample pack today. 287 gel and reflector pages! I can see how organizing them may be difficult. And I didn't even pretend I was a professional. Now all I need is a good strobe to use them with. I'll try with the on-camera flash and my cheapo umbrella strobes. Negative sleeves? Boy, it's been a long time since I've heard that, but it's a good idea.

I don't think I would every buy anything from this company. Back on 2/20 when I saw this post I thought "oh how cool, free flash gels". I order them and it said that I would receive them in 6 to 8 weeks. First off that is just a safety date so companyâs don't get in trouble but with this company it's a practice. To this date I STILL don't have mine.
This is just ridicules, good thing they are free and we didn't have to pay anything for them.

my guess would be if you were actually to "BUY" something from them, they would be much more apt to provide speedy service.
seeing as they are giving you something i'm not sure you have much to stand on with complaints.
