I ordered mine about 3 months ago and they just came last week. They must be catching up.

I ordered mine from Rosco a long time ago (last winter, I believe) and they came a week or two ago. Patience is said to be a virtue....

Did you click now or wait?
did all that a long time agao and never got anything... I just did it again to see what would happen and after clicking "now" it sent me to another page and I ended up locating a store within 7 miles of me. Not sure if I will be getting anything or not. Is that what happened to you?

Got mine today. Completely forgot I ordered them in July. So cool! But no infrared. :( These are almost the perfect size to use in my 17-40L as a filter.

FWIW, I dropped by my local stage lighting distributor today, told them what I was looking for "rosco gel samples" and then told them why. Gave them my card, chatted for a while. They thought it ingenious that we can use these things this way and said that they had the same sample books from MANY gel companies. I left with about 1000 samples.

Oh, and these same companies make some AMAZING stick-on products that I plan to order and stick to large foam insulation panels for quick backdrops. I learned a lot and got a ton of bg ideas from talking with them today.

Cindi would you mind sending me a few???

Well there are obviously two possible goals to their offer of samples;
1) To lure in new customers to the quality and value of their product and to add in purchasing the correct color.
or
2) To allow existing customers to better choose which colors to buy.

Most of their existing customers are probably going to spend a lot of money on sheets and rolls. The customers already know their value and quality. Offering samples to this market would seem to be an extra service, one aimed to aid customers in choosing the correct colors for their needs. This does not need to be nor should it be a free service. They are offering a shortcut and any customer who intends to stick with them will probably be more than willing to pay for such a sample book.

Their new customers, their potential customers however have no knowledge of their value nor quality and especially the exact shades required for their needs. It seems much more likely that in the intention of netting these new customers that the company would provide their sample book for free, as to minimize the excuse in not trying their products. If two companies offer samples, one for a fee and one for free new customers will choose the free samples first, it is just good business sense to offer them for free.

So what is Rosco doing? They are offering them for free, this would indicate to me they intend them for new customers as a lure to their product. Note the free samples stores and restaurants sometimes offer, especially of expensive wine in hopes you will be hooked.

The fact they are not meeting the demand of their new customers is very bad for their image. Rosco appears to be a very professional company and as such should be used to customers with strict to the minute deadlines, offering a service even for free and then not meeting the demand is a red flag and will cause customers to think again.

Of course this is just my opinion. :)

For those that have not received them keep and eye on B&H photos website. You can buy the book fairly cheap. They are also on Ebay if you really want one.

Companies usually offer free stuff to draw new customers. If they're going to then ignore these potential new customers they're doing more damage than if they'd just offered nothing. Not only will those potentials not become buying customers they'll also tell others who may have bought otherwise. If they can't service existing customers AND new, then they shouldn't be trying to attract new.
And if they only want to send freebies to paying customers then why not limit them to paying customers?

You seem to be of the opinion that people who haven't put in an order should have to wait while they serve everyone who has ordered. I don't think I'd have kept jobs long if I'd just passed over everyone in line who simply had a question or wanted to check out the merchandise before coming back another day to buy.
"Hey people! Anyone who doesn't have their money in their hands, go to the back of the line! And if you see anyone who IS buying, let them step ahead of you!"
Nope, doesn't really seem to me like the best way to do business.

Of course, it also has a certain aspect of getting new customers. But the actual sheets that you buy are alot larger than the small freebies that they hand out. They are used mostly for reference by theatre people.

As I ordered something, they are sending me more samples. For those of you that have not ordered anything it seems the company has placed you on the "back burner" I for one think this is the way to do business.

I think you are misunderstand some of our gripes (not all however). At least speaking for me, I ordered my free sample back in March and did not recieve the origonal free samples. I had never used them before, and I do not use a company that offers them free and then doesnt send them out.

Thats just my 2 cents worth.

I do not have a problem taking care of their paying customers first, a company would go out of business first if they didnt. I guess I am looking at it from the point of if they are trying to offer free smaples to encourage people to purchase them then they are not doing themselves any favors by waiting 4 months to send them out to the customer. I would have gladly paid for them as well, if they were not free. Its not about the concept of payment vs free at least for me. I know nothing in this world is actually free. Someone somewhere has to pay for it. Those people being the paying customers.

Cheers,
Rich

Yeah last time I said this about the company I got the same response. And I still stick by my words. The company still sucks. Had they sent me the free gels and I liked them I would have order some real ones from them. I am in the market of a few and I would have liked to see them in person. Because they didn't... they won't get my business.

You have to think about several things. Like, maybe they didn't forsee a massive influx of requests for these free packets from internet savvy photographers? They probably had more than enough on hand for their normal requests levels...but as soon as this 'tip' flooded the internet they were probably out-of-stock very quickly.

Just because they give you the packets for free, doesn't mean they don't cost the company anything. *cost of labor, cost of materials, man-hours devoted to recieving and filling orders..etc. And all, with the POSSIBILITY that some of these people will place a future order.

The buisiness has to be responsible to what brings in the bacon, and those are usually customers who come back again and again.

So...once again, if you want a freebie...you could wait. If not, you could pony up and buy one?

(*I just realized, that I have about two or three of these books in my desk at work! SNEAKS OFF TO THE SCHOOL...)

Personally, I don't tend to continue dealing with businesses who offer me something then don't follow through. I MAY give them a second chance, but never a third.

I got my Lee filters, so I'm happy with them, but not so much with Rangefinder mag. They've had their two chances!
