Hello there, fellow TSers...
I wanted to share something I encountered over this past weekend. I think I may have mentioned this before in the thread, in response to Juli's concerns about "snapshot" comments - the National Gallery of Art is currently exhibiting a collection of about 200 snapshots in a show entitled "The Art of the American Snapshot". I went to see this exhibit over the weekend and the examples I found there should put to rest any thought that the mere "snapshot" cannot ever be art. These types of photographs celebrate the serendipitous, the accidental, the transient, and the natural (in the sense of differing from the posed and self-conscious). It was a pleasure to view them, and have them taken seriously as works of art to be appreciated.
There's even a name for it - "vernacular photography" - and there's many sites out there that celebrate the genre. I'll give you the links to some at the end of this message.
Sure, not all snapshots have that certain something, but if you don't get out there and snap away, you won't ever find the ones that do. Don't let the presumed slur of "snapshot" keep you from occasionally freeing yourself of too-much concern for composition, etc. (which frankly do obsess us all to one degree or another - or else we wouldn't be on this site, eh?). Your "mistakes" can sometimes be your best shots.
After seeing the exhibition, I thought particularly of Christian's recent shot - - breathtaking and beautiful, and utterly unreproducible. A poignant moment snatched out of time.
So, take heart all you Suckers, and no matter how it's intended, always accept your "snapshot" comments with pride!

I tried, but my drew score isn't good enough for TS. Sorry. I'll have to turn in my furry head. |

But... but... we still need a mascot! We occasionally forgive good scores, you know. On very rare occasions, voters suffer temporary sound judgement and everything. |

Gordon, whatever you decide to do, please keep reading our thread and offering advice -- we'll all be the better for it (hopefully you will be, too, though I'm having difficulty articulating exactly how; maybe just 'cause we're all really nice folks . . . ).
For my fellow TSers, I've posted this and asked for comments once and didn't get any, so I thought I would ask once more (I did get some views, so maybe they really just suck and everyone is too nice to tell me). Maybe it's 'cause I didn't post a thumb of any of the images, so here's one:
Any comments anyone has the time and inclination to give in that collection would be appreciated.
Hope everyone is well!
Best,
Bruce

I seem to remember all sorts of objections to Gordon and Robert/Bruce/ Bear_Music 'joining' Team Suck on account of too many high numbers in past scores. They should certainly be ashamed of themselves on that count, and all the teams are pretty full up anyway.
I personally think that we, or preferably some other discorporate 'we', should create, or imagine the creation of, a sub-team of conceptual outlaws. It's important that the outlaws should be conceptual because, among other reasons, it's important that the particular sub-section doesn't really exist. That way they haven't actually joined.
You could always, in this hypothetical situation I sketch, point to the words 'Team conceptual outlaws' somewhere or another. It wouldn't prove much though. I could write 'down with the price of beer' on a brick wall somewhere, or even here, but you wouldn't go broke betting on the price of beer remaining essentially stable or even going just a wee bit up. If it did go down I'd be happy to write it again, but I think after that there really ought to be some consideration.
Being conceptual is also very good for the outlaws and the concept thereof, not least in the hypothetical circumstances of the hypothetical team of conceptual outlaws that doesn't exist but hypothetically might. By being outlawed from the best cocktail parties for sucking and outlawed from team suck for being seen in the company of cocktail party guests, these boys have got the conceptual status down. In principle. As it were. |

I'm sorry, what I said was:

ROFLMAO!
But Robert/Bruce/Bear_Music completed his assignment and should be on a team! Though he never actually posted here that he wanted on a team. So, the whole thing confused me. I wonder what he thought of my poem???
Robert/Bruce/rheverly, I left you a couple comments. |

I would say it means you never actually left... but raish could say it in a much more confusing manner, lol!

I live in a pod. Pods are small metal storage boxes, used for worldly goods in the real world. They are not exactly soundproof. I fear that my neighbors may turn me in to the mental health people due to my reaction to Raish's most eloquent post and subsequent clarifying post.
It was an excellent mental health break!
And Bruce/RobH, I will try to get to your portfolio of travel woe shots, assuming my internet service provider provides adequate internet service. I have long since learned that after typing a longish post (such as this one), to highlight the whole thing, hit ctrl-c, THEN hit post. That way I am prepared when I find it necessary to reload the page and try again. I did, as an aside, now that you're here, discover that the bandwidth in the Middle East, which is provided by satellite, is max'd out. And expensive. Aren't you glad you know that?
Carry on.
Oh. One more thing... from another thread:

What raish is trying to say is don't worry so much about whether certain people are in Team Suck or not. You can love them either way. If they need to be assimilated into the meyersborg, then he will be notified.

Smarts and an amazing lack of team scores are up in the Challenge Results Thread. Congrats to hipychik and Melethia for the top scores in their challenges. Melethia shouldn't have too much of a problem commenting on the rest of the entries in Street Smarts..

Many thanks to Kelli ( Kelli) and Michelle ( colorcarnival) for their comments on my travel nightmare shots. Much appreciated! Deb, don't worry about getting around to comments, I know it can be a struggle (though they are always appreciated).
I'm still not entering challenges, but at least that means I'm contributing to the "lightening" of Team Suck entries . . .
Hope all is well, and yes, Mary, it's good to see you here, even briefly.

What I *don't* get is the comment that I was left that talked about how well the colors worked together.
Umm......that's the *other* challenge!!!!
Sheesh!!!......8>)
