Park in Savannah, Georgia. Manually focused camera.

I love the S curve leading through in the light and how it still has the feel of the park I was in, while being about any park you could ever be in. It stops being a literal record about the place I was, but becomes something about the sense of that place.

Blur also happens to pull down the contrast on a bright sunny day. Shadows merge with highlights and the whole thing falls in to the camera's dynamic range.

Maybe there will be a challenge for Foreground and Background Bokeh, and you could try this again.

If this were a little less out of focus, and not much less, I think it would have really NAILED the Impressionism style of the masters.

Congrats for sticking out the score. I think you should copy your comments from the blur side challenge into your notes here, because they're perfect. They also help me appreciate this.

I know from experience what a long week this must have been for you. But, I also know you'll pull out a blue ribbon for the next challenge from your magician's hat!! :-)

notes from the "blur" side challenge: without noticing you had entered this in Impressionism, the first thought that came to mind is how clearly this would have fit! i am stunned you landed so near the bottom of the pack..the colors & the effect are perfect. With all the "filters effect" griping that's been going on around here, I cannot imagine why you did not score higher.

Like the bokeh in the foreground. After a month and a half of looking at blurry photos this has a feeling of normalcy about it. That shade sure looks inviting, could sit under one of those trees in a second if I were there.

I have no idea why this scored so low, I really like it (I didn't vote). But after looking at it for a couple of minutes, I'm having trouble getting my eyes to focus on other things. ;-)

FWIW, in my humble, uneducated, consistently low scoring opinion, *this* shot met the challenge of "impressionism" better than some at the opposite end of the spectrum. Go figure. :)

Gordon what are you doing right down here in 205th place?
Nearly a brown ribbon :)

A bit blurry for my liking

My feeling about impressionism is that you are able to recognize the subject...it just has a lot of texture and brush strokes. If you are attempting to use camera blur to create the brush stroke...it needs to be in a specific pattern...not just blur. Blur has no texture.

This has the look of "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" minus the people. It is however a bit too blurry for me. Lovely light.
