its really up to you, but i think I shot 90% of my pics this year with a lensbaby :). Your 50mm and your 85mm would be more than adequate. the get together part will have lots of things to shoot so zooms and wide angles might be fun, but certainly not necessary (same could be said for the speedlight).

Hey shecoya ( I assume you are part of the planning group?) just a thought and you probably have thought of it. The local college or university might be a less expensive site for accommodations. Not sure if they are close to the site for the workshop. But maybe you could post the option for people that might want to stay there.

oops I guess i should have read the whole thread. I'm a little slow.

The University isn't an option, but the College is exactly what we're looking into. They promised a quote today, so we'll see. Thanks for the input.

Cristin,

We talked to the powers that be today (police friends) and they said a permission form signed and witnessed should cover our end nicely. I'll have one drafted up by the end of the week to email to you and your sister. If you could print it and get it signed and witnessed and mail it back to us.. then we're Golden for the workshop :)

- not to waste a trip out west & i need to get my mountain fix ;)

i am considering taking a trip into the mountins for a couple of days of short hikes - post GTG/Workshop .. stickly a byog trip (bring yer own gear) though if people sound interested we may be able to pool (one brings tent/another cooking gear/etc)
-lightweight car camping stuff-
.. likely a std loop route of Calgary/banff/jasper/edmonton ..

if anyone is interested in coming along pls let me know ..

I may be interested in that, I was hopefully going to be out climbing in the seattle area anyway so I'd have my gear with me. I think this is a great idea.

Anyone else?

I'm down with camping .. have all the gear plus some :) Not sure what the plan is after the workshop just yet.. but i'm a maybe fo'sho :)

As a general rule, my idea of camping is any hotel that doesn't have Room Service but I don't have any plans for after the workshop so I might just tag along, too. I'll have to find a spider-proof sleeping bad, though!

haha.. Ms Sher Ms Sher...
K so long ago I was out at a Native Camp.. and one of the guys who was staying in a tee pee told me he was terrified of spiders..but teepee's are rather open to the earth and their crawly critters.. Anyway.. to make a long story longer: He told me he simply asked the spiders to leave his living space.. that he wasn't comfortable with them being there.. and amazingly enough they did!!! I live in a house by a river.. lots of spiders.. did the same thing.. (used to be terrified) and they all leave without so much as even a backwards glance ;)~ They dont scare me anymore either.. desensitized mebbe?
Its the bears out here camping I worry about :P lol
10/09/2007 08:24:22 PM · #138
Bears shmares, as long as you keep your food in the car they won't bother you.

The only thing you have to be scared of is being the first one to pass out, cause you'll probably wake up in a drunken stupor down by the river or in the middle of a forest. Or maybe my friends are just douche bags, hmmm.

Camping sounds like a definite possibility for me, I'll come out for atleast a night or two.

Just a friendly bump to see if anyone else is interested in attending the workshop GTG?

It will be fun for all skill levels and of course the social aspect is beyond amazing...

We have approx. 40 interested so far :)
10/12/2007 06:24:09 AM · #140
Well I'll probably come! :)
10/13/2007 02:03:07 AM · #141
Awesome.. i've added your name to the list Lau and I've also sent you an email.. :)

There are days when I think that there is not a lot of interest on the DPC threads. Then I actually read one and discover that I may be wrong... sigh.

I would like to express a keen interest for the GTG/event as it is 31 years since I was last in Calgary and did so enjoy the first Euro GTG. My only concern is the thought of Ros and Peter on home ground and Gary and Nasti not on home ground... How do you spell hedonism?
10/13/2007 11:13:26 AM · #143
I'll tell you what Carl, If you come over i'll teach you how to spell it in person ;) lol

You sir, are too funny. Be sure to bring those magic fingers as well.. head massages i'm sure will be in short order after more than a few beverages!!

Adding you to the list.. Wont need an absolute until the new year :)Also sent you an email from: Europemeetscanada@gmail.com ;)

I am very interested in attending. I was in Calgary and the Candadian Rockies three years ago and just loved it! I won't know if the dates will work out with my school schedule just yet, so if you can add me to the maybe list for now that would be super.

Hey Catherine.. :) thanks for your interest. If you can send us an email to europemeetscanada@gmail.com that would be awesome... (trying to keep all interested in one place so I don't have to dig through a million posts in this thread) :)

You wont need to make a final decision until the new year.. so yer golden.. although I hope it works out in your favour.. The mountains really are gorgeous aren't they? :) :)

any word on accommodation /location ?
10/21/2007 10:00:02 AM · #149
Can it be longer than 2 days this time? 2 days wasn't enough last year
10/21/2007 02:25:50 PM · #150
Ralph.. I've sent the numbers from the proposals we have received over to Pedro to crunch to find the best option for us.. He's the numbers guy... i'm the proposal getter ;) its a nice combination.

Fetor.. the workshop is one day the GTG / walk around is one day.. how long you choose to stay and explore the city and area is completely up to you... I encourage everyone to stay longer or come earlier and check out some of the amazing landscapes we have so close to each other.. prairie, mountains, foothills, desert... its all here and its beautiful. We have a nice balance of city/mountain..

**perhaps if enough people speak up about wanting it longer.. Heida might hear that and make the Iceland one next year a bit longer!!** .. nudge nudge
