Cut a wavey line down a thrid of it, and insert a photo of whoever the card would be from that is in colour, maybe even photoshop editr one of the snowflakes into a gold colour for the Star of bethlehem or something, could even cut it out and put one of the droplets with a picture of santa in it, use what you have and edit it .. put work in and people will know the trouble you went to, it's a great backdrop setting for a great card in my opinion.

John,Its a nice looking card, you just need more color in your color. This weeks winner would make a great Christmas card. If Imhr OKs it --just Photoshop a nice wreath around her left heel and on the carpet under her right foot in an Old English font put Seasons Greetings or Merry Christmass. Would look great!! :-)

Last year, I made this card for our Holiday Greeting..
I printed them on photo paper.. 3 per sheet, cut them out with a fiskar paper cutter, and slipped them into gold resume-type envelopes.
The "portrait" is a composite of 4 photographs (the one of the tree was taken from stock photos that came with my software, and the one of me was taken by my husband) that I merged together, and then selectively colored in to make it a little retro.
The year before I did my kids set up in their jammies looking like they are surprised to find a gift inside a box with a ribbon on it... and did it in sepia tone.
Guess it will be a family-type photo again.. but with kids.. ya just gotta! ;0)

As a Manager at Office Depot I thank you for your business. I will look at the inventory and see what we may have to offer and I will PM with the info.

I really like it but I think I'd also prefer a touch more colour - I do mean a touch though, not OTT golds and reds and greens or anything icky.

We have friends who usually make home made xmas cards every year (not photographic), my favourite they've sent was from a few years ago and was so witty it still has me smiling:

On the front of a small coloured card were glued a sachet of salt and one of pepper, like those found in fast food restaurants.

Inside the message said "Seasoned Greetings"!

I love it!

I played with a little color and don't know if I like it better or not...

Purple
Red

These are all just test shots... If I every figure out what I really want, I will pursue the technical side of the photo at that point :)

Have you tried using a suitably selected xmas wrapping paper instead
of the snow-flake ?

Actually, I like both of them - both connote slightly feelings. For me, the red is more holiday like and upbeat, the purple somewhat more regal and under control.

Since you want something a little different, I'd go with the purple. And I would guess that the purple will print better on regular card stock (the red washing out more).

I have not, but I will add that to my list of things to try....

I have also decided to try one of those red christmas ball tree ornaments as a subject in this shot also...

Hey John,

Now I like the B+W better, although it would be cool if you could afford to have it foil-embossed silver on black. You might be able to sell them to Raiders fans anyway...

I prefer the purple. The red is a little too bright and in your face, maybe if the red was a deeper shade it might be better (maybe knock the saturation down a little on the existing shot?)

All this has got me thinking about doing my own for the first time this year - please keep publishing the ideas, I'll do the same when I finally get around to doing something in a month or so - don't want to think about it yet!! ;-)

I'm not a big fan of cards anyway, how many personalised cards would people expect to send out? Would they only be for the closest friends?

Cheers,

Tim

I usually send out about 50-60 cards each year...

A question of ettiquette: Is it considered rude to send email christmas cards? Or does the old lick the envelope stick the stamp method show more care?

2nd question how do you spell etiguete?

Are you expecting all of these to be 'hand-made' rather than generic and shop bought??
10/24/2002 11:15:10 AM · #40
Yes... I make my own cards... :)

Prefer the purple.
Red is too red for me, though perhaps a burgundy shade would be nice.
I am inspired to try the technique for myself sometime soon.
Thanks for the inspiration John...

John,

The red most definitely! It is festive and full of originality. The shade of red is just perfect. It has a hint of a Christmas feel, yet not so much that it couldn't be enjoyed all year if it was framed.

I love it!

Didn't anyone smile at the Seasoned Greetings?
I thought it was a HOOT!

Sigh!

John, seriously, if any of my friends make and send home made cards I am always delighted to get them - receiving something that someone has made (by hand, personally, for you) is always a pleasure and although I can understand you still want the photo to be as special and good as you can make it I think any of the variants you've already shown are darn excellent!

I like them both, but think I prefer the red. I do agree with Kimbly though about the snowflakes.

Tim! Awesome idea for a card! Very funny!

Setz: I like the color of the cards with the snowflakes, but agree on a blue tone... (aren't ya glad you asked!)
Maybe cool blue, rather than a deep one...
I think the color makes the white snowflakes stand out better, and makes it look happier... of course, if your intention was mello drama, then, I guess I am no help. ;)
