how about a challenge involving mechanical things?
the subjects could be machines/contraptions from any time period (from abacus to particle accelerator) and could also focus on the machine itself or its innards
another idea would be a competition showing contrasts, either thematically or visually |

ok i got another one
theme would be "top-down" meaning all pics should be from a high vantage point, roof, plane, whatever |

How about backlighting---every photo entry would have to be backlit. This would be a great exersize in exposure control. |

I think that displays exactly what is wrong with most sunset shots. Once once has ooohed and ahhhed the colour for a few seconds, there is nothing left.

I've just realised, the URL you've given is the holding page for the image and not the image itself!!
Your picture actually has a URL as follows: //www.msnusers.com/_Secure/0OQD7d*USdAGJCd0*1OlAd03dU2xPrrOw2lrgfW5tDAdH1bZXEo9upnP1ymkyLHSIjwkHsj!DFw48zgKl0zk1K2*gPkGxLWmk/DSCN6132b.JPG
Try putting this between the [U[/i]RL] and [/U[/i]RL] tags instead.
(Open up the address you gave us, right click on the image and click properties, the URL will be shown about half way down the box)
Sorry, I didn't get to this earlier, I didn't have a look at the image before now (lovely sunset by the way - but not much else to look at in the picture).
Cheers,
Tim

You're assuming there that those of us with cheap nasty cameras have ANY control over exposure! I have no command over shutter or aperture, just a 'Macro' button. Makes 'regular' photos hard enough to take (absolutely no control over depth of field) - backlit images would be pretty much impossible (without, I guess, some clever additional lighting?) |

"Funny" - Make us laugh. I bet you would get more voting on this challenge!
"Proverbs/Adages" - Take a picture that exemplifies a proverb, something like "A rolling stone gathers no moss" or "caught between a rock and a hard place". This might be more interesting if the descriptions are shown because many of these are specific to one culture or language.

All things Macro large and small... Could be part of a larger object, or all of a smaller one. Just as long as it is larger than life size in the picture.

This thread really is outstanding. In case you couldn't tell, this week's challenge topic came from this thread -- and I'm sure many more in the future will, too. If you've got ideas, post them to this section of the forums 'Challenge Suggestions', and you will be heard. Adding a description makes it all the better.

1. Expressions-any image that displays some kind of OBVIOUS facial/bodily expression
2. Time-the passage of. Do not include any watch/clock/time telling device. Use only manneurisms or blur, etc.
3. Pouring- Pour anything.. liquid, candy, etc.. have the motion blurred, or stop the motion. |

Here are my favorites from this thread with some elaboration...
REPETITION - show either many of the same (object or living thing) or just one (object or living thing) and create a sense of repetition. You photo could be as literal as a flower field or a visual effect that creates repetition (object reflected in mirrors)
EMOTIONS WITHOUT FACES - take a photo that gives the viewer a certain emotion (anger, happiness, sadness, pain, ...) without showing someone's face ...
These are both topics where location and culture shouldn't matter.

A lot of excellent ideas! We did a "something old" challenge before, but is there a new twist to it that you can come up with? Another thread said opposites... Great brainstorming!
