Well, I'm not too sure but I reckon he looks like Jamie Farr (Klinger from MASH)! :)

Ben Stein? I don't think so.

I believe he was thinking of Alan Greenspan. But, it does look like Ben Stein.

Looks like John Updike to me, too. I've met him a couple times, last time maybe 15 years ago. I imagine this is what he'd look like now...

R.

Yeah, I think so:

kind of a loose definition of the word celebrity

:)

Yup, looking closely I noticed 4 distinctions in the same place in both photos: his upper-right lip has an indentation, above that at his laugh-line a horizontal scar or something, a kind of dimple at his right jawline just above his chin, and a mole in front of his ear. Good call Pug-H, banmorn and Robert, I had no idea who he is.

It is John Updike... he's a writer, not an economist.

You mean because he's actually famous for having done something, rather than most of the more commonly vapid celebrities ? He's won multiple pulitzer prizes for a start.

And had more best sellers than most authors have books written. A genuine celebrity, a literary lion, at least among people who use their brains :-)

I agree. one of my biggest rants in life is the fact that idots like the guy that married brittney spears get money and fame and the people that make medical breakthroughs and things like that are not even known to most of us. I myself don't know near as much as I should about people like that but most people (in this country at least) don't care to know. In one of my team meetings recently i mentioned something about Stephen Hawking and got nothing but blank stares. I know his stuff is way over most peoples head (mine included) but to not even know his name shows how little most people care about inteligence.

I know Greenspan, never heard of Updike, and no, I don't like to use my brain ;-)

I work at a well known Children's Research Hospital, so we have many Notables around here (as well as Nobel prize winner).

OK, I had no idea who it was, but he looked like an economist to me (but not Alan Greenspan). I did know that John Updike is a writer. ;>þ

Oh I love John Updike's books. Such symbolism in there, especially in "Couples," which is my absolute favorite by him. I also enjoyed the Rabbit series.

If you saw the movie "The Witches of Eastwick" - he wrote the book that the movie was based on. Much of his work is similar...almost black comedy with a rich tapestry of sub-themes.

Still didn't recognize him in the photo, though. :)
