I don't normally find my own images underrated, because they get what they deserve 99.9% of the time. Even though this shot scored higher than I assumed it would, I still think it didn't really get more than a cursory glance by most voters. In my heart I think it's more zen that it was given credit for being, but my mind tells me that I should be thankful for the 5.6 I received and go on. ;)
Edited to add my apologies for finding my own shot underrated...sorry for throwing the thread off.

I thought it was well titled and was an exceptional find. |

That's pretty much the way I feel, but I really thought I had something this time. I am really disappointed with the placement of this photo, much more than the score.

same here. I had high hopes for this one. My current stop motion entry sucks in my opinion but it's doing almost as well. that's disspointing. lol |

Well, not to jump on the bandwagon or anything, but I too was disappointed with my score. I wonder if it would have done better in color?

Yet another that wasn't as well received as I thought it would be. I could tell the soft focus was purposeful and though heavy I found it to be just right for what I thought the photographer was going for.
Hehe, I can see by the comments that I was one of the few! Still I liked it, wish it had done better than 310th place.

Funny how these 'Underrated...' threads get sidetracked with the 'Why didn't my entry score better?' thread material. |

Heh. Just human nature I guess! I don't mind so much that it got side-tracked so long as folks make sure to include those underrateds that aren't theirs as well.
I love seeing what people feel should have done much better based on their votes on others' works.

Yet another I thought was robbed with its 206th place.
edited to add an underrated

Two of my favorites of the challenge that did not end up in the top 20:
(even though I would have liked it better without the buouy, I still gave it a 10 for the peace and serenity I felt when looking at it)
and
which is the kind of shot I tried to create for the challenge but never succeeded.

Aww, thank you, tej!
To be honest, I wasn't completely happy with how it came out, but I'm not skilled enough in pp to capture what I saw and felt when I took the shot. I'm happy that it reached some, though I do understand why it wasn't for everyone :D

Thanks LucidLotus. Always nice to be recognized however briefly.
I'd fill up a page with all the shots I felt were underrated, so I'm not going to do that. Rather, I'll say that DPC continues to amuse me with what wins in challenges. Same ol' same ol' all the time.
Just keep delving into the challenges to find the real gems. I've been doing it since the beginning.
(I also wanted to add.. let's keep the original poster's request in mind and only put *OTHER PEOPLES* images that you felt were underrated in here. If you're disappointed about your own score, there are plenty of other thread creation opportunities for that.)

I think it is safe to say that most people wouldn't know Zen if jumped up and bit them in the ass.
But then Zen wouldn't do that . . . or would it?
ooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

A lot of people wrote haiku in the 'current challenge' thread.
Haiku are Japanese, like zen, so they are thought of a zen by association.
A lot of other symbols of Japanese culture are associated with zen, judging by the content of entries. I think that's fair enough, given the wide base of participants. Zen is Japanese but Japanese is not necessarily zen. As much as many of as like to consider 'what is zen', it's not reasonable to expect all the voters and entrants in this challenge to get caught up in such esoteric matters. Pity, but hey...
Haiku are 5-7-5 syllables but some say that the English language is so structurally different to Japanese that 'one breath' is a better measure and that one should concentrate on the inclusion of a seasonal symbol, the absence of the writer's influence on the described scene etc.etc.
You can read up on it if you like, but mostly it's esoteric and we - er - get the idea.
I think the top rated images look more like chocolate boxes and greeting cards than images that oblige me to restock the deck of my perception.
It was a good challenge though and it was enjoyable to participate and maybe the images made us all think and anyway they, and we, will still be here tomorrow. |

Thanks for the recognition, Elaine. I'm glad there are some people who enjoyed this shot, including yourself. I wish it would have scored higher and from the comments I received, I'm still puzzled why it didn't. Regardless, I enjoyed shooting this and even after a week of clicking the update button, I can still look at it and smile. |

I'm confused.
Is the bokeh-ku bawdy or erotic? |

no no, you're thinking of boku, which are out-of-focus haiku. Here's a famous example:
some water, I think.
oh wait! something is moving!
I hear a big plop!

Think this is completely underrated at 5.7, don´t know why my shot scored above it. Love the lighting in it :P |

As good as it is, my guess is DNMC in voter's minds. I felt it DNMC but still gave it a decent score, just because it is so good. |
