Desolation Scores............Way out there!

I have now voted on 26% and will vote on no more. I will however, comment on any image where the submitter PMs me. Since I have no image in this challenge and I am no longer voting (nor will I change the votes I have given out) you will receive my unbiased opinion for what its worth. As with the framed challenge, I have a very specific idea of what desolation would look like and while I didn't vote really low, I don't want to be considered one of the problems voters on the site, at least in regards to this challenge.

So feel free to ask me for a comment but please take it with a grain of salt.

It seems I've discovered a handy little niche in the 5.9-6.0 range, which I'm happy with. More importantly, in the past few challenges I've received some great comments, especially a few from photographers who do work that I admire a great deal. And on that note, Dahkota - thanks for a great comment on this one, and in Shadows. You do very good work. :-)

Oh, and I got the "not desolation" comment as well, which is fine. One of the things comments will tell you is whether your photograph "reaches" an audience. If that audience is an audience of one, and in this case a particular voter, then mine did not. That audience may have a very particular definition that says "desolation" to him/her - just because it meets the definition in OUR mind, doesn't mean it always will in someone else's, and that's fair.

Despite having gotten two comments in a rather negative vein (one thinking it DNMC with a definition of the word desolation, and the other telling me to dodge and burn more), my score is satisfactory at this point.

Score is fine - just north of 6.0 and it'll fluctuate, but I'll take comments over score any day! I've begun to realize that the shots I like to take appeal to a smaller crowd, more of a subset of the voters, which really is fine by me. Heck, in some cases, I'm the only person I know that likes some of my shots. :-)

I haven't started voting yet...but I just glanced over the photos and realize why even my second comment gave me DNMC. Everyone went for the emotional aspect of desolation and I went for the physical aspect. So I think many voters are looking for sadness and loneliness..where i went total destruction....darn me for trying to be different.

I'm done shooting for a challenge that has a "negative" title such as "image grain", "desolation" "sadness" etc...etc...

I have a shot surely worth a 6. I am now in a hole at 5.40

I think when someone sees a "negative" shot....their insides cannot let them vote high...no matter how good the shot or composition is !

Woooohoooo...finally someone realizes my photo is desolate...even said it's one of the most memorable views of desolation...that's all i care about. That person could have given me a two, but my photo WILL be remembered.

Well, the voters are not being very nice to me - AGAIN!!!!

Come on it's really a very good shot. You know you want to give it a ten. So go ahead and free yourself from the low-voting trend you have been in. Give mine a ten now. It'll free you from your own desolation.

Idnic - there is still plenty of time for me to jump ahead of your 6.xxxx. Then again there is plenty of time for me to jump further behind too. :-(
