My score hasn't really changed since the first couple of votes. I'm really proud of this image and would hate for it to bring down my average.
Either way though, I havn't submitted to a challenge in a while so it's nice to be back in the game.

Not doing as well as my best of 2004, but boy oh boy does the DPCPrint rock at 16x20!
One of the few pics I have taken that I will be proud to mat, frame and display.
Still hanging in the 6's, 17 comments, no favs :(

I just finished voting.. so here are the stats..

10 x2
9 x 5
8 x 13
7 x 45
6 x 117
5 x 220
4 x 242
3 x 122
2 x 52
1 x 16

after going 3 times through all the entries there were only 2 shots I thought deserved a 10.
over 60% of the images I thought didn't deserve to be in the best of 2005 challenge, even though some of them were nice images they were not nearly the "best" the photographer can do, and not even close to being the best on DPC in the last year.

I've commented on 88 images, 11% and I'm going to comment on some more.. mostly the bad ones to say why I voted so low.

and I just recieved a PM from the owner of a picture I voted low and commented on... he told me I was a jackass...

if people can't take critisism they shouldn't post their pictures.. and why do they make things personal by saying such things ?

Dropping, dropping, dropping. Last night at this time I was at 6.0968, within .0011 of my all time high finish. Then the slide began.

"Submit your best photograph taken in 2005."

What about that said that you were supposed to vote as if they were the best DPC images of 2005? You're supposed to judge photos on their own merits and your taste, not against some pie in the sky DPC ideal.

If you don't want criticism on your comments don't post the comments on peoples pictures or in the forums, why do people make these things personal by saying such things in front of the entire community?? There's always the baghead option you know...

Don't take it to heart DanSig. They probably just saw your "average vote cast" stat being in the threes, checked your "comments made" and saw that the majority of them were on images that weren't even in challenges, then just made a PM in haste thinking that you just enjoy voting low without being critically helpful. It happens to the best of us. ;)

????? Huh ?????
How could nearly 10% of them NOT meet the challenge?
It's a free study.

Not nearly the best the photographer can do?
It's anonymous, so who can say in the voting stage? and 60% didn't deserve to be in it?
Holy cow!

Oh - I just looked, and now I think I understand:
Avg Vote Cast: 3.9828 out of 696 given, not counting Best of 2005
Avg Vote Received: 4.8439 out of 4561 received.

Ouch - We all have our opinions I guess.

Edit to add:
On second thought, this may have been out of line but will add this:
For the 60% that you felt didn't deserve to have been entered in the challenge,
or you felt didn't meet the challenge per your 1's & 2's, I really hope you left a comment/critique on them as to why.

Dudephil, you're average vote cast is a 7.3. Ummm, what? You're defending that?

I can't really know, but i'd wager that he actually put a DNMC comment in the Best of 2005.

Here's how my voting went, but is subject to change over the next week. I have reviewed all of my 2, 3, 9 & 10 votes already and bumped a few up, but none down yet. Not saying that won't happen when I hit the 4-8's.

1-0
2-4
3-16
4-90
5-316
6-286
7-92
8-17
9-4
10-4

Average vote so far, 5.51. And look at that bell curve!

This is fun!!!

DanSig - Thanks for the education about voting, although I think that your curve system needs revision.

Wavelenght - I could not have said it better.

BradP - yep "ouch"

Well, it's been a rough day. My score dropped a full 0.1 and .... (edit to remove comment which could potentially identify my entry)

Here's looking to a better day tomorrow.

actually this isn't an anonymous challenge, most of the entries have been posted before on DPC, and when I saw an image I felt were not the best of that photographer I just looked for the image in his/her portfolio and compared to other images in the portfolio, and in most cases there were much better pictures in the portfolio.

as to my low votes.. there can only be one winner, and I vote accordingly, I spent about 10 minutes looking at each image in the first go, then I did it again 2 times, I study composition, colors, focus, sharpness, postprocessing, size, and ofcource subject. and to my opinion most of these images are average, they might do well in a specific challenge, but they are only average compared to the best pictures in this challenge.

I found 2 pictures to be outstanding and gave them both 10, couldn't make up my mind wich was better, but usually I only give one 10, as therre can be only one winner, the 9 I'm much more generous on.

in most challenges my average vote is around 6.5, but way lower in this challenge because of the difference between the best and the rest.

and I did comment on all images I gave 1 and 2, as I did on the 8,9 and 10.
still working on commnets for the rest... just too many entries :)

---------------
doing much much better than I thought it would. I was expecting 3's mostly L()L

I also feel mine is doing better than expected. I haven't had decent editing software for months so my submission needed a bit of cleaning up. All I can do with my current software is crop, adjust levels and color balance--real basics. I've gotten several nice, thoughtful comments, frequently about cleaning things up or things that require filters. I'm not disappointed with my score even though it is pretty low (it is in my usual range LOL!) I appreciate the amount of comments I've gotten considering the number of entries. I tried to comment on as many as I could. I managed to vote on 23% and comment on 64 images (8%). I tried to be more generous than usual with my scoring since I figure people are entering things they really care about and did their bests on.

My score:

With a vote to comment ratio of 10:1, you know she must be getting really high scores.

Well, by my logic then, your score must be off the charts!
