That does sound like it would be depressing. Goes to show that a score here doesn't really reflect much on how good a photo is. There are probably a lot of voters that don't take voting seriously, and will just vote on how well they like it, and vote it lower if they have just seen an exceptional photo..
But where yours was reviewed and got the awards, the judges are probably serious about what they do, and wouldn't hide behind an anonymous vote and give it a 1 because it wasn't as good as the frozen waterfall in Iceland they saw a second ago.

Anyway, mine's not doing well either

I knew mine was a snapshot, if a well composed one, but I really liked the colors and composition and pose, so I entered it. Not my best work of the year, but I wanted to enter it and a past-submission-date challenge came along :)

yay score updates
I'm sitting within 0.0065 of my current highest rated image...
how suspenseful!

this is much better than last year - my best of 2004 finished in the 3rd percentile... hahahah

My all-time high is 6.097, so I'm getting close. Normally I would love to get 6's. Now a 6 brings my score down. Bring on the 7+'s people!

I've gotten a few more comments of my "tilted horizon". I still don't see it, but if it did one thisng, I got me to look at my Free Study entry, and low and behold, IT didi have a tilt. So I fixed it. So thanks to all who gave the crooked horizon comments.

Tee hee. . .good for you. I learned this lesson the hard way. The dpc voters are sticklers about tilted horizons (or tilted buildings or anything for that matter) Now ya know, huh??? See how much we learn from nit-picky comments? :)

I realise we still have a long way to go but, I am feeling quite pleased with the vote so far. Unless it takes a nose dive, which is always a possibility, I will beat my personal best. The comments and favourites mean more to me that the score.

Have left the score off, don't want to jinx anything.

All these low scores showing up. Not my fault! I voted quite high in the best of challenge. I thought there was a lot of great photos. Maybe I am just easy to please.

Is anyone voting on the best of any more? I'm stuck at 270 votes for some time now... (most of the evening actually). I've been trying to go through them carefully, and so far this is where I am:

You have rated 181 of 831 images (22%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 17 images (2%) in this challenge.

out of 181 votes, I gave:
1: 0
2: 0
3: 0
4: 2
5: 22
6: 70
7: 65
8: 19
9: 3
10: 0

I will be hopefully finishing the first round of votes sometimes after the weekend, and then go through 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s to see if I can bump some of them up. I haven't seen all the photos, no time for viewing without voting in this one, so I can't tell if I'll give <4 to anyone in this one. I know that there will be some more 9s and 10s, it is definitively an above average challenge. (My average vote cast from my profile is ~5.3, and in this one I am giving ~6.5 without changing my criterium)

As far as my score, it is within a striking distance of displacing my personal 3rd best right now. There is plenty of time for it to go drastically up and, more likely down.

Good luck to all!

i'm still voting and i have to say i am impressed once again. i am humbled by my peers here on DPC (both young and old).

so far i have not given anything lower than a 4 and this was just because of image size and i saw one image that was just too blurry (and it wasn't intentional).

I'm about 50% so far. Really taking my time on this one and enjoying every minute of it! Really, really great photos here. I've got a few new favs already, and it sounds like a lot of other folks too. I'm definitely giving out a lot of high scores, ...although I still havn't seen a shot close to my predicted winner of a photo of kilt wearin' scottish poet warriors riding plaid tuxedo clad flying monkeys into battle. I guess I'll come across it in the second half?

edit to add: if that's not the winning shot, boy, I might end up looking kind of silly!

I've gotten just 3 comments. Don't really care how it scores but would like some feedback dammit!

Ok rant over.

Haven't voted yet so there is still time for you all to bribe me ;-)

I was just thinking... with this many entries, it might be that a lot of people won't reach their 20 percent votes cast. This made me think: do votes get counted in the average score before people reach 20% and then deleted from the average again if they don't make it by the end of the voting period? Or are votes counted from the point on that someone reaches his/her 20% mark? In this challenge, if the first is the case, that might cause the final score to bump one or two tenths of points up or down, no?

A 5 is possible! Going to look at my votes to see if I can improve some of them. There are some I know I should have scored higher. But I did vote on all of them, I did not feel that it would be fair to only vote my 20%. Good Luck everyone.

Would you like to share some of mine, such as:

"Ahh yes, the obligatory xoxoxoxo!! No challenge is complete without someone inserting a picture of their xoxoxoxox".

or something like:

"Is this the most interesting thing you have seen during an entire year? I'm sorry. "

Good thing there are more people voting according to the quality of the image :)

If people vote less than 20% none of their votes will be counted.

Just reached 6, I'm happy with that, specially since it started at 5.2 after about 30 votes.

So I am looking at these images as I vote, still got about 200 to go, and thinking some of these could be a cover shot for National Geographis. Mine ,well it is doing ok more like the cover of AARP. But I liked it and felt it my most emotive shot of the year. People are making very nice comments and suggestions so thanks in advance.

I was and am still looking for something to jump through my screen and slap me. So far I have found 4 images that are instent 10's and I love them. I think one of these 4 will win. I just want to be fair to everyone so I am taking my time going through the over 800 images, good thing we have two weeks to vote.

Have a great day all.
