Yay!! My score has risen to the point that someone voting my entry a "6" will effect it negatively. I've received to 6+ scores before, but only after the final count is taken. This is the first time I've had a score fairly firmly ensconced above a "6" so I'm very happy.

(Now to hunt down and chastise those dastardly "1" givers.)

I've only been following this thread occasionally so if this has been noted before, forgive me.

Has anyone noticed that less than half of the people who entered the "Best of 2005" have voted on the Challenge?

Strange.

I'm hoping it's all of the '10' voters waiting until the last minute.

I was just thinking the same thing. All these people entered but haven't voted. Maybe a large percent went with only voting on 20% since it is so many photos to vote on. I know it took me a couple days but voting is half the fun. I'll be really curious to see who breaks even with their number of votes.

I have voted on 552 entries so far and fully intend to finish the job. I have commented on only 25, knowing if I stop to comment on each one first I'll never finish. I expect to comment more, but I'll never make 800.
So far to date I have received only 348 votes and 9 comments. I don't expect to get 800 votes, but half as many votes as entrants seems at least reasonable.

My entry was as I expected, a "flop" I should have entered something different.

Can you see the breakdown of votes before voting is over?

No, people are using spreadsheets to figure out their votes.

I am confused. This has been my first submission on DPC.
I received 24 comments, 353 votes, 446 views and 2 favorites. Average score at this point is 5.29. Most comments were of the fact that the score they gave would have been 3-4 points higher (I think that is a lot) if the image were larger. OK. I screwed up posting the photograph. However, are we voting on the photograph or the size?

Will make sure next time to hit the "640".

Barrow, that's how we learn. It really is important to use all available pixels in DPC.

And congratulations on getting through your first Challenge.

I am a late starter on the voting..but have now voted on 20% and commented on 42 entries. I intend to get through all the entries as far as voting is concerned.

What I find very interesting in this challenge is that there are lots of "wow" shots that I am giving 8's, 9's and a couple of 10's to, but there are also so many shots that are mediocre at best, snapshots if you will, or shots where the focus is bad and the horizon is all tilted. There seems to be very little middle ground in this one, i usually give mostly 5's and 6's, but this one is mostly 7's, 8's or 3's or 4's. However I am leaving comments on most of the 3's. I would have expected far less of the mediocre shots given that we could chose from anything shot last year and not entered previously.

I also now know why my entry is not doing so well.... there are some awesome shots here! Well done folks. :)

I think it should be a manditory 100% vote on this challenge if you enter. On that note I haven't finished voting yet.

Guess what? I have just realized that I can now "VOTE" as well as comment on "EVERY" Challengers.

I became a full member last week. and had already COMMENTED on EVERY ENTRY in "THE BEST OF 2005" Challenge.

YES, 830 comments to be exact.

It has taken me five days to realize that I could now vote as well. Today, I went through them all again. I have been a very busy girl, as I have just FINISHED VOTING for EVERY ENTRY.

I am quite surprised at the results.................................

10 - 1
9 - 5
8 - 70
7 - 179
6 - 340
5 - 190
4 - 38
3 - 7
and no 2 or 1

I was dissapointed at a number of entries, that were really to small to visually see them properly, but tried to be fair, when voting for them.

I was also alamed a the number of landscapes/seascapes that had there horizons not straight. It really upset me, and I did vote slighty lower because of this..........

On the whole I saw some absolutely outstanding entries.
I LOVED the TOP 76 entries, and out of that total, the TOP 6 - "BLEW ME AWAY", as they had the "WOW" FACTOR.....

WELL DONE EVERYONE.....

Personally I think it's very bad that less than half of those who entered could be bothered to vote.

I have an entry in the challenge, but may not have voted on your entry yet. I've voted on 250 or so of the entries, BUT I've gone over each of those entries at least 2-3 times as I make sure I'm fair and am rating them evenly. I believe I'll make it through all of the entries. In the mean time, it will take 3-4 people like me to look like 1 voter (to total over 800 votes.)

BTW, my available time has gone to voting, not to shooting. That is definitely a bummer.

Be careful about judging another's motives, time and life balance.

I am impressed with the many wonderful shots. This has been a high scoring challenge on my part. Don't discourage me from finishing my voting - you'll like the votes.

I hope I wasn't judging motives, and I can understand, having voted on all, how much time it takes, but less than half is a concern. However, I take your point.

No offense taken, just trying to share another perspective. I love the opportunity to see the world through other's eyes.

Back to scores:
My score is strong... I've had wonderful comments... and 3 favorites. No matter how this challenge finishes, it's been positive.

Finished voting...Whewww

3-2
4-58
5-310
6-274
7-157
8-26
9-1
10-1

7's,8's, and 9 subject to bumping. Feel pretty good about the 4,5,6's. All in all I thought lots of great shots with a variety of subject matter. Good luck to you all.
01/26/2006 11:04:29 PM · #649
I thought there were some great photos there.

I gave out like 42 10's. :)

Guess I am just generous.

I tend to be a little hard but by the time I get through the 7,8,9's again, I'll likely have 10-20 pics at 9 or 10, with a lot of the 7's going up to 8.

We all have our individual tastes :) I'll confess, tend to grade on the curve, but the middle point in this contest is closer to 6 than 5, IMO.
