So, who would be best to PM about PMing the commenter? (I'm fighting back a "PM" joke)

i'm doing ok i guess, same as some others, literally bored so found something semi interesting to photo, tried to put an artistic/abstract spin on it :)

some people get the idea, some can't accept the creativity of the shot, ho hum! :-)

if someone told you to photo a bird, would you simply take a picture of it sitting around? or would you try for an interesting angle, good dof or bokeh?

exactly! metal isn't just a lump of metal! :-)

this is my first challenge entry, and i've only really started more heavily into my photography over the last couple of months, so i guess I can't complain - especially as i know i can take a much better picture than i've submitted - so why didn't i you say, time/work/family etc etc etc :-)

I am doing great in this challenge.. my lowest ... I don't know what's wrong with people. They can't get that in the picture everything that they can see is ONLY Metal..... I keep getting comments as ... nice picture... good luck... picture looks dark...

People Calibrate your monitors or increase the brightness of your monitor. The pictures (mine and possible others) that you see as dark look perfectly fine to me on several monitors of different make.

I guess it's not in the people here to see the creativity that I have expressed in my pictures...

After this I might just take a hike from this site for some time.
:-(

O' by the way I'm at 4.00

If you still want, please check out my other work at the site in my signature. If you can then please do leave some comments.

if you are using a CRT monitor then ajust brightness to max 50% and then you are close to the brightness of a LCD monitor.

there is another thread about the darkness challenge, where there is a picture of a knife, but people with very bright monitors see a face behind the knife, witch is supposed to be the main element of that photo.

I have the 23" Apple HD cinema display calibrated with Gretagmacbeth EYE-ONE every 2 weeks.
a $1500 display, and with the brightness set to 100% I could only see a very dark silouhette.

so those using a CRT for photoediting, please turn down your brightness if you do not have a real monitor calibrator like eye-one or spyder, doing this will only help your pictures, since most LCD displays are much darker than CRT displays.

Dan.. In all the four monitors (four different makes) I have noticed that the CRT is darker than the LCD. In another thread I started I raised this point. Everyone talked about calibrating the CRT to see the picture properly. I still think that the LCD even at the darkest is brighter than the CRT at 50%. But then I could be wrong.... Please comment. Also if someone can send in a link to calibrate the Laptop LCD of an IBM thinkpad i will be greatful... maybe I shouls start taking brighter pictures.

4score, looks like you're on your way!

I'm holding at barely above a 5 ... oh well.

I got some nice comments though (well, not all praising me, but all helpful). And I like the photo!

This is my first contest. I'm scoring 5.6257. Have no idea if that's good, bad or indifferent. Sounds indifferent to low to me but I have no idea what average scores are round here.

Several helpful comments though.

Look at the blue ribbon winners and you figure they average about 7-ish so I'd say 5.6 (especially for your first) is really darn good!

DON'T FREAK OUT!

I was voting on the metal challenge and the phone rang, while I was on the phone, my 6 year old thought she would help me by voting. After I got off the phone she told me that she voted for me. "Mom, don't worry, I gave everybody 1st place!" "What?!"

When I looked back at the votes, she gave about 30 people 1's! Don't worry I am fixing it now!!
