There are a lot of inside the box photos in this challenge and, don't kill me for this; I think the reason for some of the low scores. I saw a lot of "Abandoned Buildings" and I have to say after looking at the same broken down square box inside another square box it got a little monotonous. And here I go again, with 500 entries, not all of them are going to be at the same level as a challenge with 300 entries. There were many great photographs than lacked DOF here and framing there, contrast, or what ever. But in the end that is why most of us are here, to submit a photo, have it judged, learn, take better picture, submit a photoĆ¢€Ā¦..
I am really looking forward to seeing the photograph that wins this.

I agree with the jrtodd, this being my first challenge. I have no way to know where I fall with scores and all. I looked at some of the past winners and most had a 7.8-7.5 average. I am about 3 off of that. And 4.6 from the bottom of the barrel. So I am already half way their to making my way to the top.

But I think your right it is hard not to get monotonus. I started late at night and was full of spit and vinegar. But that slowly wore off and slowly all the B&W images just dulled my brain. I do not know why I was in such a rush....I should have just poaced myself like 80-100 a day. Well next time I will learn and not do 500 in 6 hours. Even though I have been filtering through all of them every hour and re ordering them.

Comiecast seems to up tonight, unlike the past 3 nights, so maybe I will get some more votes in. I am at 43% which still leaves a lot to go.

You have rated 100 of 494 images (20%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 100 images (20%) in this challenge.

I definately picked the wrong challange to try and comment on everyone's photo.

Hi all, new at this, but come from a family of graphic artists architects and painters (water color and oils) since the 1700's.

To me right or wrong, the photos, all of them were excellent in format, I wish I could do as well, some of them I could look at for hours and paint them, but.

There is always a but.

I did not get a feeling from any of the pictures of abandonment. Even though some sort of spoke it in expression, like bell curve grade.

Old, yes. Falling apart, yes. There was no degradation of the building. Nothing saying we do not like you and will have nothing to do with you. You are perfect in form, livable, even nice, but none of us like you and you can sit there and rot. I guess in a few words, no emotion.

Then that is me. I like pictures to speak to me, so I can render them in my feeble way.

Glad I got some comments on this one, and guess what they all were in exact agreement of what was lacking and I wasn't able to see it when I entered it!

Most of the images in this challenge have one thing in common (so does mine come to think of it) filling in the frame with the abandoned building. The few photos in there that I really liked and gave high scores all have additional view of the surroundings, really makes all the difference I think..

Yes, you did indeed! Good luck, hope you are successful!

By the way, you did comment on mine already. I see why you thought I might have done some dodging, but I didn't. I appreciate you pointing that out to me though, it is something I will be aware of and try to avoid the appearance of in future challenges - thanks.

You can figure it out pretty easily with a calculator, that is, if you click your "UPDATE" button and find that there has been one new vote. Here's how:

Multiply the number of votes times the average scores on both the current and previous votes.

For example, say you have had three votes, and low and behold, they were all 10s. Three times ten equals 30. Then you hit UPDATE, and you find you have had a fourth vote, and that your score has dropped from 10 to 8.75. Multiply 4 times 8.75, and that equals 35.

Subtract the first total from the second to find the value of the last vote cast.

Subtract 30 (your first answer) from 35 (your second answer) to find the value of the last vote: five.

Then curse the blind idiot who gave you the low score :0]

By the way, you will have to round off to the closest place most of the time. Say you have 10 votes, and your score is 5.99. Multiplying these gives 59.99, so round up to 60 and use the formula above. It still works.

And the curse continues! I updated my score a minute after my above post, and it dropped from 5.8680 to 5.8535. Did the math.... three! As Bugs would say, "What a maroon"! heh heh (Still pleased with my score so far, but hoping it won't drop any lower of course).

Don't feel too bad . . . I haven't received one from you yet either. LOL

Hey, there were 497 of them when I was voting yesterday. Looks like I have three less to worry about (my luck though, I probably already voted those three).

Good luck notonline. Race you to the finish.

Happy to say this is my worst scoring challenge yet! Oddly enough, it is also the picture I am happiest with. Weird.
