Well folks, I gave it my best effort.

And that is all that is hoped for in any challenge, and bet that is far above the average on this one.

40% of such a large grouping was no small chunk of valuable time you have sacrificed. I only made 52% myself.
(I justwish Iculd typ betr and fastrr)

Well folks, I gave it my best effort. Two kids with science projects due this week really hindered my time to sit down and make comments. Sorry to those that didn't get a comment from me (I'm a beginner anyway, so I doubt you missed much).

I really like my shot except for a couple minor distractions. Hoping it's going to get back in the 6 range.

Is it just me, or does it feel like voting for this challenge has no end? I feel as though I should have finished hours ago, but every time I vote, up pops another shot. Are you sure there isn't a way for someone to keep submitting after a challenge has started the voting phase?

Don't feel bad though, I'm a high voter...typically nothing below a 5...unless you reeeeeeeally deserve it.

I don't think it would be the same. One person could be a generous scorer when they vote, and never gives anything lower than a 5. Another voter could be a little tougher, and never give anything above a 7. As long as they both vote all the photos, it won't matter. But if they only vote for 20% of them, then I would hope that only the generous voters run across my photo. I'm gauranteed not to be below a 5 this way.

Does this make sense?

i only have 2 and one doesn't count because its from my bf who felt sorry for me so he sent me a comment :) and the other one i don't understand because they just put a link to a picture in their profile and said nothing else???????

Looks like lots of people are being DQ'ed....

Well you are all very lucky. I got 3 freakin comments...

You have rated 492 of 493 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 131 images (27%) in this challenge.

I got 12 comments.

Are comments more important than voting??? Like lets say I commented on 25% and voted on the same ammount or is voting more important like I voted 100% but only commented on 5%???
04/19/2005 09:41:40 AM · #16
I got 36 comments.
Thanks BradP and e301 for yours!

Perhaps due to the size of the challenge and being the the 5 realm are the reasons why the low number of comments.
I for one made it through the voting process and commented on 216 245 images (so far). I have commented on images that I voted on the upper end with praise, as they felt they deserved the recognition and commented on the lower end with reasons why I scored it low(er) and made suggestions I thought would be constructive and could help. If you are in the 5 realm, it doesn't mean it's a bad shot, nor an outstanding shot, and just adding "cool" or "nice" would do nothing really.
Many of the comments I have given are up to 8 lines or so, and that takes a lot of time.
As an example, a comment given to a shot that was much too small & needing "help" may have got a comment from me such as:

"Hope I am not the only one to give you some bad news (hate doing that).
This image is very small (XXXbyXXX pixels) and will suffer in a challenge where we can upload as large as 640x640 pixels. Image is also lacking a little in sharpness and is slightly tilted to the left.
The site has some great tutorials on how to prepare a shot for submission in the Forum drop-downs under Tutorials. If you need further help, please PM me now or after the challenge and I can direct you to some great sources of help.
You did meet the challenge and gave you a 3 for effort."

As an example of an image that appears far too yellow (foliage) I may have added in the commments:

"As a suggestion, try taking the image into Photoshop (or similar image editing software), and in the Hue/Saturation adjustments, take the yellow channel hue and saturation to the right a little (may 10 pts) and bright the lightness down a bit (10-20 pts) to give the yellows more of a darker, richer green look, and bring the red saturation up just a little."

Don't feel bad if you don't get a lot of comments.
In a challenge of this size, it just means there really isn't much wrong with it in my opinion.

Should you ever wonder as to the reasons why some people opt to remain anonymous when posting comments.... I would urge you to read your disparaging remarks aloud to yourself and think.... it may come to you.

Assuming that the person requesting the validation is indeed the same person that opted to remain "Hidden during voting", your comments are such that they certainly will not inspire others to openly make comments to you or anyone else for that matter.

You openly deride this person by calling him or her and idiot, and not having the mentall acuity of knowing that you are not a retard. I would suggest you wait till the challenge is over... I am certain they would love to communicate with you.

The Request for validation is a method available to all DPC members and unless you have done something wrong, there is nothing to fear from it.

Just a thought

Ray :O)

me thinks he doth protest too much...and by the way I am still sailing on with a 5.5

It would be nice Ed ,but i can`t help it if the current Quality of enteries is under par !!!.
I don`t think my entry really deserves a ribbon anyway ?? LOL

BradP, rulerzigzag, jrtodd, wilks... hey I'm in pretty good company for a change. You know there are bound to be some other unreported scores on either side of 7, tho. What I can't fathom is the number of comments, both on my entry and others also. I would be tickled to end up above 90%, top 50. We'll see.

You should get out of it with a 6, I think Brad - there often seems to be that little jump at the end of things.

No-one's reporting a score over 6 here yet, it seems. It surely can't be lower scoring than the Bored challenge, can it?
