Congratulations to everyone who participated... The photo portion of both of these projects is complete.
Alphabet Soup
Picture Alphabet
I can't complete and distribute the project until I receive the rest of the release forms. There are 9 volunteers who have not returned these forms to me yet. I sent out an email last night to these people with a copy of the form and instructions on how to return it to me (via email or postal mail).
PLEASE REMEMBER:
I need the NEW form sent to me. If you have sent in the old form previously, I still need this NEW one as soon as you can get it to me...

Another project is in the works. Mr. Bear_Music has given me an idea for a new project and has also volunteered to help coordinate it. All I can tell you about it right now is that it will be significantly different :) |

John, can I put my name down now to be involved in the next one? The first was great fun to be a part of as well as quite challenging.
Kieran.

I too would be delighted to participate in a collaborative project. If my help is welcome, please let me know what I can do.

Great Job John! Love to see you get all these people from everywhere to participate and help you out in these projects, John. It's really great to see that that kind of community here on DPC! All of you have done a great job on these two Alphabet projects.
Can̢۪t way to see the next project from the Robert and you, probably will be very interesting and challenging.
If I get enough guts and might have to volunteer this time. But time will tell as I’m just a fresh fish here, still learning and oh yeahâ€Â¦ did I say learning already ;-)

The hardest part of doing a project like this is getting what you need done when you need it :)
I have an idea for getting the next project done more quickly. When it gets broken down into pieces that volunteers get, I will probably assign one piece to two volunteers. The first one to submit the required photo and release will make the project.
I'm ready for this one to be finished and I am still stuck on the release forms :) |

I sent out emails directly to those who have not returned the release yet. If you didn't get that email, I have your release.
As of this time, I still need 6 release forms from the following people:
doctornick
jenesis
laurielblack
micknewton
pcody
[url=//www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php?USER_ID=24925]thatcloudthere[/url
Jenesis and laurielblack have told me the forms are forthcoming. I haven't had any responses from the others yet...

DoctorNick sent in proof for his photo with a note saying he wasn't going to be near a computer for the next two weeks...just a heads up. |

Yuh.. he told me that too. I don't know whether to wait for him to return or to replace him in this project. I have both of his photos but no release. |

For what its worth I wouldn't be interested in participating if this turns into a race against someone else to get the submission in. I'm happy enough to motivate myself to meet the deadline and don't feel that having to compete against somebody else would help me to produce the required image. In fact I feel that it would actually be counter productive.
If the next project is simply a request for an image with some creativity like the last project then I'd love to be involved.
Cheers.
Kieran. :)

I'm not sure what will happen yet. It was hard enough to get the photos for this one. I need some sort of 'plan' that will ensure that I don't have to round up extra volunteers to complete the project after the deadline. Any suggestions are always appreciated :)

I think that's a tough one John.
I'd be inclined to accept the fact that its just the nature of this kind of project. Any project that depends on volunteers is going to have these kinds of issues because there are no contracts or business protocols in place. I think you've done an exceptional job of getting this project to completion. It says alot about your ability as an organiser.
The only way I can see to make sure projects are more streamlined in the future is to use photographers that you've used before and that you know will follow through. I don't think this is the answer though as it excludes new participants and new participants are what makes this kind of project so interesting.
I guess what I'm saying is are you happy to go through the same process again. This time planning for dropouts and having a plan ready to fill the gaps. It seems like a do-able system. You've done it once already.
Sorry I can't offer an alternative but I really think that a planned version of what you have just done is about as streamlined as it could possibly get.
Kieran.

A perhaps workable suggestion for next time: send the release info in plain text, and have us paste in into the file info comment area -- submission of the photo with the embedded info constitutes granting the release.
Also, if someone sent in the photos, and maybe sent in the release, I think you could go ahead; really you can argue that submitting the photo according to the instructions and terms you sent people really is accepting the terms of the release, even if they don't send it in physically. |

I really would rather have a real signature of some sort. I thought the scan or photograph of the new release form was pretty simple and easy enough for us digital photography geeks :) |

Was easy enough for me! The photography trick was how I sent in to DPC the parental permission form needed to sign my 12 year old up on the site. ;-)

It's easy enough, but obviously adding that one step creates some problems. I guess I'm being just a little less paranoid, and can't really see getting into any trouble over using these photos as you've previously described, especially if the hold-up is over one or two people who've supposedly complied, or have openly stated their intention to.
For that matter, you could start a specific thread for "Project __ Releases" wherein a valid posting from our login would constitute "signing" the release.
You've done a great job keeping this project organized and moving so far -- heck, you even got me to send in stuff more-or-less on time -- I hate for it to be frustrated at this point.
BTW: are we each supposed to be uploading a print image to sell, and is their any kind of pricing guide for this? It seems "stupid" to be hosting 20 copies of the same print image, maybe at 20 different prices.
BTW2: any progress on the Dreamland project? I was working on a ghosted background using an old photo of Poe, but I got sidetracked : ) |
