I wish it would just go away!! From now on a challenge photo needs to age at least one day before I post it. I took the photo on the last day and post processed minutes before submission. It seemed good at the moment but by the next morning all of the flaws were very obvious.... and now the comments continue to remind me of those flaws. (what are the little text characters for embarrassment)

You think that's embarassing, I LIKE mine, and I have a 5.0.

Now that's embarrasing. ;)

Well I am happy to say that my scores have actually gone up and I should take 4th to last and 5th to last..It only stands to reason that is where I will wind up. My Very first entry finished last..My scecond entry finished 2nd to last..My third entry finished..You guessed it..3rd to last..So it only stand to reason that 4th and 5th next to las should be mine too this time around..
At a snails pace I seem to learn..but someday soon it will all come together. (:

All your pics are TOO SMALL. Also, they have a haze about them -
SOOOO try this:
After you are done editing, resiz ethem to 600 pixels on the long side - the oter side will be in proportiont to that. IGNORE DPI. It has NOTHING to do with on-screen display. It is for printing ONLY. If you have to specify a DPI, use 72 or 96.

To dehaze, use UnSharp Mask with these settings: amount 30%, radius 60, and threshold 1.

Size matters, and i am saying that not just because i am a man. Small pics like your are the ones i give 2s and 3s to.

Okay, so I'm giving up all home on my Yellow entry...it was just my test-run as a first submission, anyway. My score ranks about 4th to last when compared with the resuts from Lucky7 XD

I have much higher hopes for Broken...considering how much I put into it. I mean, I'm already satisfied with the photos, I've got my personal experience out of it, the rest is up to the masses XP

Ahh...I'm such a newbie...

I'll learn.

wow...your portfolio images all look great, but your entries to challenges are all wayyyy too small. Try making them around 600 to 640 pixels long and when you save them you have to do some sort of compression to meet around 150 kb limit instead of saving them at max and making them so small.

The last couple of days has been a pretty wild ride. From pretty humble beginnings, (4.19ish early), this image has climbed steadily and got up to almost 6.19 at 182 votes. The next 40 votes have steadily dropped it to about 6.08.

It was almost enough to make me hide in a hole and start dreaming up conspiracy theories. But, all I really managed was to sit around an wallow in the fact that I have no good ideas for wind (I have a mental lock on a photo with a fan and, uhmm, nevermind.)

So if anyone has a spare idea for wind, please PM me.

On the completely bright side, I have 14 comments on yellow, with one being from one of the really good shooters here at DPC thatI don't think I have ever heard from. To a large extent, getting the feedback from all those folks, complete with the encouragement, make the scoring ride a little less important.

Be well folks, enjoy the weekend.

Could be taht some of don't know any better just yet. But the improvement in scores for this one and yellow revisited have me very optimistic. True for the landscape challenge. I way over compressed the file. It was my first attempt at compression without getting a tiny tiny picture. I actually cauht the mistake and replaced my landscape entry..but ya know when your looking a the thumbnails in your folder..I inadvertantly replaced it with the same picture rather than the better quality of the two...lesson learned.

5,1801... not bad considering that I started at 4,6. I'm really happy considering a very bad period of having had to get used to the 4's. The 4's obviously reasonable considering the quality pics I presented. In this spesific yellow competition I had another problem. The problem quite evedently, was that some people see a pic, think there is some thing illigal going on and mark the pic down. As said in another forum, if you think someone did something illigal, ask for a DQ, at least the submitter stands a chance of delivering the proof. In my case, I shot up from the 4's after validation..... sad, but by then the damage was done.

best luck to all of you my friends, may you have good scores at least representative of your effort.
All said and done, dpc rocks, I have learned to look and listen... and learn. By doing just that I became a very happy chappy, enjoying every entry as I should, and as you should.

my first submission here..its almost 4.5 now..and im not complaining..most important thing im satisfied with the idea/shot itself..more than 200 people who took the effort for a vote..2 nice comments from people i dare to put trust in (regarding there own captures availaible here) (one good thing about giving comments is u are likely to have feedback and attention on ur own works)..plus one usefull critical note wich reveals the person had a close look ..thats to be appreciated..anyway this site seems very alive (and kicking)to me..a tastefull lay-out..lots of possibilities..plenty inspiring amusing etc etc pictures i already met on my way..damn.. im glad i found u all
hope u to find me too

Me neither- 15 comments, 2 favorites and 1 wish list (my first). Guess I'd better submit a file for print. ;-)

Not likely. I'm still in your rear view mirror, but stranger things have happened. Though I'm probably out of range, it would be funny (and sad) to get consecutive green ribbons. ;-)

Sad for who?

Not very good, but a little better than my first challenge. This is my second challenge and I am still learning to see things I never considered (i.e. shadows under chin, wrinkles in backdrop, etc.) As iron sharpens iron, ya'll will make me better :>

Well its my best score so far on here. Nothing really to write home about unless you are looking for improvement over previous challange entries..which I am..

I noticed that the viewer to vote ratio is a lot higher in this challenge than in previous ones. Not a heck of a lot of comments though. Where as my other entry for landmark has 17..but they all pretty much are point out the same problem..over compresion.
Were as my yellow revisited doesn't have that issue..hence less analytical comments...
Ok..everyone go run and comment on Steve's shot now...

Less people are commenting because there's possibly nothing stickout as being horrible or extremely awesome about the image. Most of the time the top 10 and the bottom 10 get the most comments and those in the middle get the least.

I am hoping to finish in the top10. I have got into the top10 only thrice and they were 3 consecutive submissions...I got really lucky at that that time. Someday I will get lucky and win a ribbon ;)

Going up a bit. I think it's already stabilised.
Just an average score for me. Maybe flowers haters don't give me a chance :)
