My picture is also sucking wind with no comment as to why. I noticed someone commented on whether some of the pics were orange rather than yellow. I did not see anything about the contest being restricted to primary yellow. My picture is neither primary yellow nor is it orange, it is well within the classical definition of yellow. However, if you are voting against a picture only because you believe it to be not yellow in your eyes or because of the color cast of your monitor, please comment "not yellow."

Thanks,

Mine is doing the best out of all my submissions. The only thing that is a bit annoying (which I figured would happen), is people telling me my photo is "crooked" When in reality, the object itself is not straight in real life. Oh well should have seen that comming.

AVG 5.3824, Comments 3, Votes 68
Can't complain
Thanks!

I am very fustrated about this challenge.
I thought I would be near 6.0 or just over it
But low and behold:
this morning=5.33 (about my usual)
around noon=4.92 (and mostly like dropping fast)

what is going on here..............

I've checked the calendar twice and it's not April 1st. For those that remember that dark day, you just never know...

No comments. Ugh!

Flat 5.0000 after 67 votes, but altough I like my subject the photograph is essentially pretty boring. Should have submitted something else, that subject interests me less but I think it is a better photo.

Well I just finished voting on all the shots..gave out seven 10's to well deserving shooters and a lot f 9's to some near misses for a 10. Gave out a lot of 1's & 2's for just very poor composition alone and bad quality of picture. But the majority were voted between 4-6..those that I gave 7-8's to; I felt they had very good ideas originality wise, composition was very good but a little bit lacking in some aspects or their techinal aspects lowered a score a little bit.
Why am I saying this? Because I think I voted very fairly and gave the best scores to the most original, "challenge" impact oriented, artistic created, with the techinal crispness.. There were some very good shots, beautiful concepts and pictures that I gave 2-3's for because I felt they didn't meet the challenge. I will tell you this. I will never look at ____________ (you know what subject matter I speak of)the same way again.

Now do us all a favor - if you gave a 1 2 or 3 to a pic go back and leave a constructive coment on what can be done to make it better / what is wrong in your eyes, etc. PLEASE! No 'this is boaring / crap/etc' and no need to fawn at the 10s either 'Just Great / Wow / best pic all year/'.

I did leave a in depth critic for the pictures that I felt were people were trying to actually meet the challenge in some way. What I felt could use improvement on. What I felt was good about the picture. I spent approximately 6 1/2 hours of the course of last night and today to do my voting. If you average that out using this formula. (6.5hours x 60min) divided by the number of entries. You can sort of figure the average time I spent looking at each entry. Granted some I spent a considerable amount of time on looking at, some only took a few seconds to rate. But the ones that I felt were the most worth of comments defiantely got between a 8-10..there were other I commented on as well. But did I comment on EVERY Photo..no.

Thinkers are always a threat to rule followers. Big deal!

Rarely does a photo that I really like place top three. And I know that the ones that some of my photos have received don't deserve them (I probably don't deserve my 10's either.) I don't really care. I am here to learn technique and to push myself.

Hell, it is just a little icon ribbon anyway. Intelligent conversation and opinions are the true treasure of this place.

Totally agree..it is all in the eye of the beholder. I would like to see DPChallenge force a comment on pictures that are voted on. IE...explain your scoring. The site council should look at these comments and see if they have merit, then either allow the core on dis-allow it. People whom want to vote should be made to leave a comment along with their vote. It will create a better learning enviroment for all but most importantly it would create a level playing field as well.
"Your vote won't count if you don't comment".. sort of thing. OR..if you don't comment..the vote is kept in a diffent tally.
Just a thought.

Oh, such a cruel cruel world. And it tis the season! Damn. Like many of you I thouhgt this one would do better. Voting seems pretty harsh this time. I recieved 3 comments and one said all good things and gave me a 10. Another complained that the photo had a color other than yellow!!!! Go figure.

Sure reminds me of that. Except that besides the ones, they are inserting a bunch of threes. Been really dropping this afternoon:

Have you ever run out of time with any pics still marked as a 1 that you knew deserved better? If you're SURE that will never happen, then vote however your comfortable...

Well... grumble... 4.6 at this point. I guess I should have left my first submission. Sigh. Ann

Never have run out of time. This is the first time i have used placemarkers - used the idea on another site and it worked for me there. GOt the idea here - from another voter. I will keep your time factor in mind though!

Bestagents,
You are right. I really can't think of a better place holder, and it allows the score to go up instead of down. I look at all the images first, then I start with the ones I feel are the best to make sure the receive my support. After that I go through as I have time and often don't get to all of the images.

Maybe the site could add a placeholder icon or folder in which to put images that you would like to save for later but do want to comment on.

It might up the number of comments. The fact that you even have a process shows that you do take the time and do care about doing it right.

I am reading a book on Photographic Composition and spent the last few weeks working on my PS abilities. I have SOME confidence now that i can make an intelligent, constuctive comment. I have even gotten a PMs thanking me for my suggestions. It's easy to like or dislike a pic, it is harder to put the WHY into words.

Now all that is left to do is IMPLEMENT my knowledge.

I take nice pics - but i want a ribbon, dammit. Yeah, it's an ego thing, i admit it.

That is the first step to help right?

I'm on the rise from 5.54 at 5.00 am. Doubt it'll last.
But this is still higher than my avg so I'm happy.

Steady downward trend to current score of 5.0822
Maybe I should find a better home for my 10D, I don't think I'm treating it right.
