Hello, your shot has been chosen for my Daily 5! This is where I choose 5 shots per day (or close enough) from the Recently Uploaded list that do not yet have comments, and comment on them.

Such a fun, amusing, and spontaneous moment. The wide-angle feel and the sharpness where it needs to be just pops this shot out and says, "look at me!". So look I did, and I was not disappointed. This is a dog that, despite the restraint of the leash, looks as though he believes that the world is his.

A portraiture that belongs among some of the best I've seen, and knowing that it is now a part of a treasured memory, I am sure that this takes a special place in your life.

It's amazing, sometimes, how much wisdom and age can be exuded in the looks of the young, as if there is some hidden force within that has returned from a previous existence, and is screaming to be let out. This child, while still remaining so sweetly innocent in many ways, still gives us a look as if to tell us that she knows, oh yes, she knows, and she'll be ready for when her time comes.

A simple show of light and form, showcasing the symmetry that abounds in design. What is this that I behold? It shines at me from the darkness, and hints at something larger, but I cannot see it fully, nor understand it's depth completely. What does the title tell us? It could be easy to pass this over, but the disconnect forces one to consider it more strongly, and perhaps, if we wish, to investigate the mystery.

There's a simplicity here that defies the norm, and sets this shot apart. It's the sort of shot where you think, "This should be boring, it's just a plant", but then you find a few minutes have passed, and you're still looking at it, and you can't for the life of you explain, entirely, why. There's a bit of nostalgia, perhaps, with an effect here that invokes magazine photography of the 70s, and transports the mind of one that was a child in such times back there. Whatever it is, it is one of those rare moments when the mundane takes on a persona that transcends, a little bit.

The Gorilla, like most great apes, is often seen as just another animal, yet every time I see one in pictures, I stop to stare. For whatever reason, they always strike me as having a greater humanity than even we, the humans, and sometimes I feel a tearing in my heart for the tragedy that it is we that rule the earth, and not they.

Such an adorable shot that allows the developing personality of this cute little infant to shine through. You can note the curiosity and confusion that she has, wondering just what that giant thing is, that is pointed at her, but at the same time there is just the slightest hint of a smile, as though she wishes to be amused, but is not quite sure it is the appropriate response.

On a technical note, there is some artifacting around the whole picture that, from my experience, would point to an over-sharpening of the image. It can be hard to strike that delicate balance between wanting a sharper image, and doing just a little too much, so it's something to watch out for. You may have missed focus on the eyes here because of the texture of the knitted sweater. I find that in portraits like this, manual focus is a far more reliable method to get your eyes and face at the focus you want them, rather than trying to rely on a usually fussy auto-focus method.

It stuns me, sometimes, that we can sometimes see that which we seldom ever take the time to really see. Light and shadow, lines and geometry, the subtle stories that life can play. It is both a static image of an open window, and a timeless invitation to endless thought.

It is a solitude that sometimes passes us by, all around, when our minds are usually so focused on our hopes and dreams and fears and anxieties and the world that forces so much on us. Yet, for whatever reason, sometimes we notice that solitude too, and you have captured here a part of that. The quiet and emptiness that is never truly empty, yet with a motion and dynamic that brings it to life.

The joy of performance and lending yourself to musical pursuit, in an effort of satisfaction and enjoyment, presented with a clarity and simplicity that makes no excuses and offers no distractions.
