POW 2009 - week1 - Wendyby TrollManComment: PAW - Nothing much new to add, but I just had to comment here because I love the expression, the smile and bright eyes. Good choice of subtle background to keep the attention on Wendy, though the dark mass on the left is a bit distracting. I love the bright reds. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Wendy this year. |

POW 2009 - week3 - Pederby TrollManComment: PAW - Excellent detail. Did you sharpen it a lot to get that detail? Nice relaxed pose and good crop. The lines on the wall following the eyesight lines are a bit distracting. Much shallower DOF or different camera angle may have helped there. |

POW 2009 - week4 - Wendyby TrollManComment: PAW - I like the pose and framing/composition of it. Even without good studio lighting if you had bounced the light off the ceiling and wall or used some tissue or something to diffuse it that would have really helped reduce the shadows and glare on parts of the face. I wish I could get my wife or other people to pose for me! |

Rooftopby karmatComment: PAW - Interesting abstract from an all too common sight that we overlook. Good detail, especially since it was taken from your car. |

Week3by DigiFotoBuddyComment: PAW - This picture is simply gorgeous. It looks like a well done oil painting with the vibrant colors. You did excellent on the sky colors. The cliff looks a little dark and hard to make out any detail on my monitor. I know you merged 5 shots, but if you either increased the exposure more in shots 1 and 2 or took a couple more at longer exposure it would have been interesting to see the cliff detail. I just love the 17 mile drive. kellymk, it's just south of Monterey California heading towards Big Sur and Point Lobos State Parks and where Pebble Beach golf course is. Beautiful part of the world. |

Brave New World Express. Iraq-Scandinaviaby raishComment: PAW - I like how the three subjects of the picture seem oblivious to each other and in totally different moods. The one on the right is interested somewhere else, the one on the left looks more bored to me than angry, and the subject is posing for the camera, though the pipe coming out of his head is a bit strange. A little diffused flash would have helped with the shadow under his cap brim and chin. |

Bellevue Bldg.by pjangelComment: PAW - You continue to get nice shots for an iPhone. It looks very wide angle with the converging vertical lines. You picked a good time of day with the reflection on the glass. I stayed in Bellevue in August, but don't recall this building. |

SandiaJan4.jpgby BalkoComment: PAW - I like how you added close-up rocks and hills to the Sandia image. Enjoy your hikes.
I did the Topaz Adjust trial and then bought it after 30 days, and I've become addicted to it for easy but powerful edits. It works very well for landscapes, but for not so great for portraits. My PB used it pretty strongly, but with most pictures it's better to use it in moderation. I took the liberty of doing a quick edit of your shot using "Dramatic" Topaz Adjust with 1.5 sharpening and about .2 noise filter. It may or may not be better, but it definitely brings out the detail.
[eta] Oh, yeah, and Topaz Adjust has been on special for $40 for a long time. Has it gone up now? Message edited by author 2009-01-23 23:44:50. |

Ingredientsby Covert_OddityComment: PAW - Aesthetically I like the DOF, the stone M&P and limes. Good composition, though it would be nice to have some limes in focus. Practically, there are much better ways to squeeze a lime. Then you can put it in the coconut and drink them both up. |

week 03 - Sunset from my Balconyby boyd2000Comment: Thanks all. I appreciate comments, especially constructive criticism. Maybe some more playing with hues would have gotten truer colors, but I'm just comparing with Windows picture viewer, and I'm not sure which was truer. I wanted to keep some blue in it to show I didn't just skew the entire color table from white to gold. Again, I did no selective editing at all. This is one of the better sunsets we get, and unfortunately this time of year I'm still working during most of them in a cubicle with no windows on the concrete tilt-up building. :-( I'd love it if we could move to the new 11 story glass building we're building across the street, but that's mainly for the muckety mucks. |
